2 What is Accelerated Reader?

3 Getting started Each half term, children will take a “Star Reading” assessment This will give them a reading range, which will be between two numbers Reading range is calculated to give pupils a range of book levels to read, some easier and some harder The ZPD (Zone of Proximal Development)

4 Choosing a book from school
Book levels will be recorded inside Reading Record Books. Book corner books are labelled to correspond with their AR level.

5 What do the labels mean? Quiz No 200010 Little House on the Prairie
This confirms that an AR quiz is available for this book. Children will use this number to access the quiz. Book title Book level Quiz No Little House on the Prairie Wilder, Laura Ingalls B.L.:4.9 Points: 8.0 MY Number of points available in quiz Interest level. Author

6 Reading a book from home
Book levels will be recorded inside Reading Record Books Many books that children have at home will be in their reading range and have quizzes available on AR AR Bookfinder Looking for inspiration…

7 Taking a quiz Quizzes will be taken in school, within a few days of completing the book Different numbers of points are available, depending on the book The “pass mark” for the quiz is 70% but ideally, pupils should be scoring an average of 85% to prove their understanding. Each class will have a 100% club in the classroom After a quiz is completed, pupils can reflect on their answers and choose a new book

8 Home Connect You will receive a website address and your child’s
Login details so you can access this site. You can set up alerts so you know how Your child is doing.

9 So what now? Please help your child to remember his or her home reading book every day and reads at home as much as possible. Keep informed of your child’s progress by logging into Home Connect. Look out for the letter about your child’s login details and the website address. The English part of the school website will Have all the information you need.
