Competitive season begins May 1st, but assignments are open now! All state certification and MYSA trainings complete (concussion training, background check) W9 sent to the Club Gameofficials account set up with updated availability, bank account Uniforms ready Communication with Brian/Daneen about your training level Attend/work Pre-season scrimmages! 8 Grade 8 Minnesota SRC - Youth Level 1 and 2 (yellow)
Pos Required Qualification both Punctual - arrive 30 minutes prior to game Appearance - full uniform, tucked in , black shorts (no stripes), socks Start of traveling game: player check in, prep talk with other refs Law 12: fouls and misconduct identify severity of no card, yellow, orange, red AR Run with flag: down, not swaying Use of flag for following decisions: throw ins, offsides, goal kick, corner kick, out of play Use of flag for following decisions: fouls, substitutions center Keeping up with Play- show an interest in the game and keep a close enough distance from the play (typically 6-10 yards)to be in a position to assess each situation. Whistle Tone – the referee’s whistle tone must increase as the situation escalates - when in danger areas, loud and long duration to stop play Use of Arm Signals – correct signals for the following: goal kicks, corner kicks, throw ins, goal scored Use of Arm Signals – correct signals for the following: Offsides, direct kick, indirect kick, penalty kick Correct restart for following: Throw ins, goal kick, start of game Correct restart for following: offsides, free kick (opp. Distance), corner kick, drop ball Start of game: coin toss, correct ball, correct number players, goal and field safety Law 13: free kicks Know the different fouls and correct restarts for each type Running position: S-curve corner to corner Training Focus Appearance Confidence Mechanics of the positions Positioning to make the call Opportunities Rec grades 3- 8 Rec grades (if 15 yrs old +) U9/10 center AR U11/12 Work at other clubs including tournaments

11 Why we use this Method Results from other club we have implemented this practice 1632 Total Positions % Fill Rate!!! Two U9 games had no center All U11+ games had center and at least 1 AR from a Grade 6 referee Daneen and Brian, I'm out on the Rec fields right now near G/H and I have to say, these kids are fantastic.  You have six referees out here who are setting a new standard for young refs.  Shirts are tucked in, socks are pulled up, whistle tone is brilliant, signals are crisp and visible, and most important of all, every single one of these referees look involved in the game.  You two and your mentors are really doing a fantastic job with the young refs this year.  Honestly we have the best Rec referees I've seen.
