1 Tivoli Storage Manager 7.1.1 Product Family
TSM for VE: Data Protection for VMware 7.1.1 FlashCopy Manager for VMware 4.1.1

2 FlashCopy Manager for VMware 4.1.1

3 FlashCopy Manager for VMware Configuration Wizard
The new FCM configuration wizard is integrated into the existing FCM VMware Web GUI / vCenter GUI plug-in (but not in the brand new IBM Data Protection Extension) Similar to the VE config wizard introduced earlier Allows initial configuration and later re-configuration at any time Reduced complexity by focussing on essential parameters only to cover the majority of typical environments Including multiple DEVICE_CLASSes Including HOST_NAME_MAPPING configuration Including remote mirroring support (new feature of 4.1.1) Many parameters are not exposed with default values being applied

4 FlashCopy Manager for VMware – Configuration Wizard
In version 7.1.1, a configuration wizard: Creates and modifies profile file Creates and modifies password file Configures necessary daemons to start on boot Not all configuration aspects are covered by new GUI based wizard Design goal: Keep it simple, focus on major scenarios and environments For advanced configurations console based wizard is still needed: Generic / 3rd party storage adapter configuration Specify USE_FOR <device class names> clauses for HOST_NAME_MAPPING Edit advanced mode parameters (-advanced option)

5 Remote Mirroring Support – FCM for VMware
Release introduces remote mirroring support for FlashCopy Manager for VMware Mirroring Capabilities: Schedule snapshot backups for mirrored VMFS datastores whereby those are created on secondary site but triggered from primary site Restore (file-based and instant) those snapshot backups on secondary site (initiated on secondary site after fail over) Attach the snapshot backup to an ESX host on secondary site (initiated on secondary site after fail over) Schedule new (local) snapshot backups on secondary site after a fail over Restore and attach locally created snapshot backups on secondary site after a fail over All scenarios presume an existing remote mirroring relationship established on storage level for the volumes comprising the concerned datastores NOTE: The remote mirroring relationship is neither created nor managed by FCM

6 Typical FCM Remote Mirroring Setup
Dedicated installation of FCM on each site FCM repository and Derby DB are replicated between sites Gives DR site similar capabilities to what already exists at the primary site Backup can be used for restores on secondary site in DR scenarios Supports SVC, Storwize V7000 and XIV remote mirroring capabilities Support through Rocket Software for Symmetrix/VMAX adapter

7 VMware vSphere Site Recovery Manager Coexistence
VMWare Site Recovery Manager (SRM) provides remote data mirroring capabilities between primary (protected) and secondary (recovery) site FlashCopy Manager for VMware can provide a secondary means of protection at the primary site For data stores that are protected using array-based replication, FlashCopy Manager can also protect data stores at secondary site To ensure immediate availability in the event of a failover operation, install Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager for VMware on a virtual machine that is protected by VMware SRM

9 VMware vSphere Web Client – IBM Data Protection Extension
At version 7.1.1, Data Protection for VMware adds support for GUI function delivered as an extension to the VMware vSphere Web Client Existing Data Protection for VMware Installation process used to install all vSphere data protection GUIs: vCenter Plug-in for vSphere client (unchanged at 7.1.1) Existing Stand-Alone Web Interface (unchanged at 7.1.1) IBM Data Protection Extension for vSphere Web Client (new to 7.1.1) IBM Data Protection Extension requires VMware Web Client Version 5.5 update 1 or later IBM Data Protection Extension functionality: Click on a VM in the web client and directly launch a restore Choose a Datacenter in the web client and restore a VM that had been deleted Observe task progress in the web client for backup and restore

10 DP for VMware: Restore wizard in vSphere Web Client
After selecting a VM and the IBM Data Protection action to Restore, user enters wizard for restore operations. First they select a restore point from the available list. 11

11 DP for VMware: Restore wizard in vSphere Web Client
Next step in wizard is to select a restore destination… 12

12 DP for VMware: Restore wizard in vSphere Web Client
Final step in wizard is to validate the restore attributes before clicking Finish. 13

13 DP for VMware: Restore wizard in vSphere Web Client
Feedback on the restore action submission… 14

14 DP for VMware: Restore wizard in vSphere Web Client
Final message to indicate the restore process has started. Now the user can view progress of the action in vSphere’s Recent Tasks panel or from vSphere’s left navigation menu. 15

18 Simplified Mount Solution for File Level Recovery
Previous version of DP for VMware delivered file level restore function using the Tivoli Storage Manager Recovery Agent Still supported at but not preferred DP for VMware provides Data Protection for VMware vSphere Web GUI Mount Wizard Allows a user access backed up VM disks for individual file restore Provides consistent solution across Windows and Linux To access wizard: Go to the Restore window in the Data Protection for VMware vSphere Web GUI Click Restore Points in the header and select one or more restore points for one virtual machine in the table Click Mount to open the Mount wizard
