2 Who are Venturers? A young man or woman
At least 14 years old, completed 8th grade Not yet 21 Interested in the program the Crew has to offer Registered Members of the BSA Subscribe to the Venturing Oath and Code Attend regular meetings

10 The Advisor’s Responsibilities
Are key to the success of the Crew Must match the youth interests to those resources available to the Crew Responsible for conducting Crew officer’s trainings Are Advisors All responsibilities are listed in the Venture Leader Manual

11 Crew Associate Advisors
Must be at least 21 There are one or more per Crew NA for Administration NA for Program Other Associate Advisors

12 Associate Advisor for Administration
Acts as a “Vice Advisor” Supports the youth VP for Admin. Helps to recruit new members Coordinate recognition of Venturers Helps sustain Venturer interest

13 Associate Advisor for Program
Supports the youth VP for Program Determine program interest of Venturers Ensure maintenance of Crew calendar Helps Activity Chairpersons Help evaluate completed programs

14 The Crew Committee All members must be at least 21
At least 3 members required The Crew Committee Chair… Organizes Committee meetings Coordinates all programs Serves as a liaison between the Advisor and the Crew’s chartered organization

15 The Committee’s Responsibilities
Recruits the Crew Advisor and Associate Advisors Completes and maintains the PCI Secures equipment, facilities, etc. Reviews, supports, and approves the Crew programs

Often identified by the PCI Do not have to be registered Scouters Provide expertise to the Crew’s program Assists the Crew’s activity planning committee

Arranges the program planning for the Crew Collects Crew activity interest information by using the AIS Helps Activity Chairs Maintains the Crew calendar

Takes over for the President in his/her absence Leads the recruitment of new Crew members Conducts the Openings and Closings Organizes and recognizes the achievements of Crew members

23 Treasurer Maintains Crew financial records and monitors the Crew budget Manages Crew funds Reports on Crew finances to the Crew

Maintains Crew membership and attendance records Coordinates Crew publicity

Lead the Crew in the organization of specific Crew activities Are appointed on an activity-by-activity basis Report on their progress to the Vice President for Program

36 More on the VLSC Employs the use of hands on activities and role playing activities All materials required are easy to obtain Participation in the course is required for the Silver Award

37 Conducting a Reflection
Reflect on the actions/activity you just did. Allow everyone in the group to comment. Ask open ended questions, such as “What,” “How,” “When,” and “Where.” Remember the Ground Rules No putdowns allowed, every response is valid Leader should show no signs of disapproval

38 The Human Knot If we have enough time… …and enough people…
…we’re going to do the Human Knot, which is used as an activity in the VLSC in the Synergism Module
