Tools needed for the Step Venting Process
Plastic Step-Vent Measuring tool P/N Vent Wires (Various Diameters) 6mm burr/mill carbide bit. Use one or the other. (Also known as Pineapple bit) 3.1mm drill bit P/N

710-OC Step Venting Process
Place vent wire along side of the shell where the venting will be placed. 2. Using a marker, mark one end of the vent wire, where the top of the shell.

15% reduction size Length of vent 3. Using a marker, mark the other end of the vent wire, where the bottom of the shell ends. 4. Place the vent wire against the left side of the plastic vent tool. Use the tool to measure the 15% reduction of the total vent length, shown on the right side of the tool.
6
710-OC Step Venting Process
5. Use a marker and the plastic vent tool to mark the 15% reduction location of the vent on the shell at the top of the canal. 6. Use the same plastic vent tool to mark the 15% reduction location of the vent on the shell at the bottom of the canal.
7
710-OC Step Venting Process
7. Using the drill bit 3.1mm drill bit, drill vent holes on the side of shell where the 15% reduction was marked.
8
710-OC Step Venting Process
8. Grind a trench on the inner side of the shells connecting the two holes. 9. Insert the appropriate D-shape vent wire. Make the round side of the vent wire leaning on the trench created in the inner wall of the shell. Note: Always use the largest possible diameter vent for the best “vent effect” and occlusion reduction for the customer.
9
710-OC Step Venting Process
10. Apply UV material in two thin lines on each side of the vent wire. Make sure that the material floats gently around the wire. Cure the material completely in the UV-machine.
10
710-OC Step Venting Process
11. Completely cover the remaining part of the vent wire with the appropriate UV venting material. Also add additional UV Venting material on the 15% portion of top and bottom of the shell. Cure it in the UV-machine until completely hard.
11
710-OC Step Venting Process
12. After UV Vent material is cured, slowly remove the vent wire. 13. Grind off the 15% portion of the shell on the top and bottom of the shell. Buff, round and smooth the edges of the shell .
12
710-OC Step Venting Process
14. Drill the receiver hole. 15. Case the shell on a standard Canta 710 faceplate assembly. Follow all standard manufacturing procedures.
13
710-OC Step Venting Process
16. Remove excess faceplate material with a sonic cutter or standard hand tool. 17. Buff , grind and smooth the faceplate around the shell. Be sure to cover the microphone and receiver openings with tape to protect them from dust and debris.

Removal line placement 18. Place Removal line/cord as shown. 19. Insert the hearing aid into the positive mold and check to make sure that the vent opening is not blocked on either end.

Important Note! You are removing the outside wall of the hearing instrument shell. The inside wall of the 15% portion of the shell will become the “new” outside wall of the instrument. Be very careful not to cut through the inside wall of the vent, or to remove too much of the faceplate. Inside of 15% portion of shell Outside of Shell

Finished 710 OC. Perform all listening and visual inspections. You must now use FONIX II Canta test software to create a Canta Open device!
17
710-OC Configuration & Testing
Connect the final CIC instrument to the Fonix / DSA5000 test system Use FONIX II Canta calibration & test software version (or higher) Select “710-OC” as the model type Run the complete Final Device test program The ComforTec™ software operating system is now installed, and the instrument will appear as a Canta 710-OC on Aventa Fitting Software v1.4.
