FY 2018 ‘Ahahui Grant Program
Purpose: To support community events that: Align with at least one of OHA’s Strategic Results, Significantly benefit the Hawaiian community, and Offer valuable public relations, recognition benefits, and community engagement opportunities to OHA

OHA Strategic Results Events must align with one of the following results: Culture Value History and Culture Participate in Cultural Activities Land & Water Achieve Pae ʻĀina Sustainability Understand Need for Viable Land Base Health Improve Family Lifestyle Choices Decrease Chronic Disease Rates Economic Self Sufficiency Increase Family Income Build Stability in Housing Education Exceed Education Standards Culture 85% of Hawai‘i residents appreciate and value Native Hawaiian history and culture 51% of Native Hawaiians living in the State of Hawai‘i participating in cultural activities, including language, and who interact with the ‘āina for cultural, spiritual, religious and subsistence purposes Land & Water Increasing the percent of Ka Pae ‘Āina O Hawai‘i managed to create economic value, preserve cultural and natural resources and historic properties, and/or provide cultural and social opportunities for Native Hawaiians in a sustainable and balanced manner. increasing from 12% to 15% the percent of ahupua‘a that are managed sustainably Health Increasing the percent of Native Hawaiian families actively improving lifestyle choices by engaging in health programs to decrease chronic disease rates and participating in supportive family development practices by: Decreasing the number of Native Hawaiians in State DOH substance abuse treatment from 45.9% to 39% by 2018 Increasing the number of Native Hawaiian mothers receiving prenatal care in the first trimester from 81.4% to 83.6% by 2018 Reducing the rate of obesity among Native Hawaiians from 49.3% to 35% by 2018 Economic Self-Sufficiency Native Hawaiian median family income will equal 100% or greater than the Statewide median family income. 92% or greater than the Statewide median family income by 2018 Increase the percent of Native Hawaiians who improve their capacity to own or rent a home. By 2018, decreasing from 55% to 50% the percent of Native Hawaiian renters who are paying more than the HUD standard housing cost (no more than 30% of household income) By 2018, increasing Native Hawaiian owner-occupied housing from 56.62% to 58% Education Increase the percent of Native Hawaiian students who meet or exceed educational standards and who graduate from post-secondary institutions. By 2018 increase the number of Native Hawaiian students: Exceeding READING standards from 55% to 65% Exceeding MATH standards from 32% to 45% Earning post-secondary degrees or certificates in the UH-system by 12%

Applicant Eligibility
Applicant must be: IRS tax-exempt non-profit only Compliant with HCE Any previous OHA grant must be closed out in good standing Organizations may only receive one (1) ‘Ahahui grant award in a single fiscal year

Event Eligibility Event must significantly benefit Native Hawaiians & provide positive recognition benefits to OHA Preferred Events: One-time, Open, Free & Publicly announced Events Also Considered: For a select audience, Include a fee and/or Occurring over multiple dates (Must be united under a single theme & occur over no more than one month)

Ineligible Events Events not supported by the ‘Ahahui Grant Program:
Award/recognition events Building dedications or groundbreaking ceremonies Events outside the State of Hawai‘i Fundraisers or charity events Music concerts Events occurring as part of regular programmatic services Sponsorship of individuals, teams, groups, etc. Travel subsidies to attend an event Church or religious events

Examples of ‘Ahahui Events
Visit for a list of FY 2018 Round I ʻAhahui Grant Awards OHA is interested in supporting events whose primary purpose and activities are designed to: -Increase Hawaiian access to needed public and private resources, programs, and information -Offer meaningful, authentic, and participatory activities that allows attendees to be involved in Native Hawaiian cultural practices, beliefs, perspectives, and history -Provide engaging and meaningful opportunities to strengthen the well-being, cohesion, and sense of place in a Hawaiian community

Match Funding Requirement
Applicant must provide at least 10 % of the total project cost In cash and/or in-kind Match Funds + OHA Request = Total Event Cost [(Match Funds/Total Event Cost) X 100] > 10

Application Evaluation
Each eligible & complete application is reviewed and scored by all members of the review committee Based on a maximum of 25 points Alignment to OHA Vision and Strategic Result (5 points) Impact and Benefit to the Hawaiian Community (10 points) Recognition Benefits and Opportunities for OHA (5 points) Relevance, Reasonableness, and Appropriateness of Budget (5 points)

Additional Information
Awards subject to the availability of funding. OHA reserves the right to offer partial awards and/or restrict funds from being used to support unallowable, inappropriate, or restricted expenses. Organizations applying for OHA funding support through other solicitations or programs may also apply for an ‘Ahahui grant if the event is determined to be distinct and separate from any current or potential projects being funded by OHA.

Application Instructions
Use the FY 2018 ‘Ahahui Grant Program application via the online application system accessed through Hardcopy application submission will not be accepted . All applicants must first create an account within the online application system Fiscal sponsors are allowed. The fiscal sponsor must be the grant applicant and registered account holder. All sections and questions within the application must be addressed. If not applicable, indicate N/A.

Budget should be accurate and include a detailed breakdown for each item including information such as quantity, unit cost and purpose / justification (see sample budget attached to solicitation) Minimum match funding requirement: 10% of total project cost via cash and/or in-kind Provide Vendor Quotes, invoices and estimates where applicable Provide Letters of Funding Commitment for all sources of matching funds, both cash and in-kind

H. Optional Documents This is the only optional section. Documents uploaded should be relevant, not repetitive. Examples include: previous or current event flyers, news articles or advertisements, or photos. I. Application Authorization Form Complete and upload the OHA Application Authorization Form. Must be signed by the applicant organization’s authorized signatory.

Double check everything – inaccuracies and missing information may deem you ineligible and/or will affect scoring. Keep OHA informed of any changes to the event. Don’t miss the deadline.
