IBM Sterling Gentran:Viewpoint for iSeries Automatic Notification option
2
Automatic Notification provides a method to notify users based on the importance of Gentran job return codes. The Automatic Notification function allows you to: Create notification entries based upon process name, command name, and a return code from the Message Center. These entries will be referred to as notification profiles. Create/modify/delete entries for specific notification profiles. Create/modify/delete paging entries for specific notification profiles. Create/modify/delete User Exit commands for specific notification profiles. Copy Automatic Notification entries. Print Automatic Notification entries. NOTE: Viewpoint must be enabled to access the Automatic Notification panels. Message Center must be activated to track jobs for return codes.

How to enable Viewpoint?
Viewpoint is enabled by a Global Parameter setting. From the Genmain menu use option 11, for the System Administration Menu; then option 1 to set global parameters. Use the F8 key to move to the last screen (EDIX415-FMT04).

Summary Both Gentran:Server Viewpoint and the Message Center must be enabled and activated for the Automatic Notifications to work. Upon the completion of a job that is being tracked in the Message Center, the Automatic Notification profiles in Viewpoint are searched for a matching process name, command name, and the return code. Only one notification profile will be selected. Notifications are generated by , page, by performing a user exit program, or any combination of the three methods. NOTE: To use the automatic notification, you will need to configure your iSeries to allow Internet addressing for the SNDDST command. To determine if you are already set-up for Internet addressing, type the following command: DSPDIRE USRID(Internet Gateway) and press Enter. Internet addressing is already configured, if the Display Directory Entry Details panel displays.

Run these 3 separate commands as they are listed to allow for Internet addressing: ADDDIRE USRID(INTERNET GATEWAY) USRD(‘Allow OfficeVision to send INTERNET Mail’) SYSNAME(INTERNET) MSFSRVLVL(*USRIDX) PREFADR(NETUSRID *IBM ATCONTXT) and press Enter. CHGDSTA SMTPRTE(INTERNET GATEWAY) and press Enter. ADDDIRE USRID(TESTUSER TESTBOX) USRD(‘TestuserDescription’) USER(TESTUSER) (where ‘TESTUSER’ is the user profile on the iSeries and ‘TESTBOX’ is the system name where the job will run) and press Enter.
