7 When do we do Monitoring?
What is Monitoring ? Why do we do Monitoring Who does Monitoring ? When do we do Monitoring? Monitoring is a systematic collection of information on all aspects of the project life, when the project is being implemented. It can be divided into internal monitoring & external monitoring. Internal Monitoring: Staff performance, planned vs actual expenditure, procurement procedures External Monitoring: Planned vs actual activities, timely implementation of activities, targeted beneficiaries vs actual beneficiaries Why? To analyze current situation To identify problems and solutions To discover trends and patterns Measure progress towards objectives Project activities on schedule Formulate revise goals Make decisions about human, financial and material resources

11 When do we do Evaluation ?
What is Evaluation ? Why do we do Evaluation ? Who does Evaluation ? When do we do Evaluation ? In Plenary – Divide the participants into group of six Group 1 – What is Evaluation? Evaluation is a systematic and objective assessment of ongoing and completed projects. It makes comparison of the project outcomes with planned ones. Group 2 – Why do we do Evaluation? To ascertain whether the project has achieved its intended objectives Provide recommendations for the improvement on the future course of the project as well as lessons learned for other projects Group 3 - Who does Evaluation? Project Manager or assigned project staff can conduct internal evaluation, and donor or consultants can conduct external evaluation. Group 4 – When do we do Evaluation? Periodically, mid-term, at the end of the project (final evaluation) and years after the completion of the project (post-evaluation) Brainstorming – 10 minutes Presentation – 5 minutes each group (20 Minutes)

14 Indicators are units of measurement that tell us about IMPACT, EFFECT and OUTPUT to judge the effectiveness of the project Indicators should be: 1.Ethical, 2.Scientifically Robust, 3. Accessible, 4. Reliable,5. Useful Good indicators are measureable, targeted, practical and independent What is Indicator?
