Zambia - Vision Long term vision Focus for 2014-2016
- Provide improved water and sanitation to all in order to improve people’s quality of life and enhance socio-economic growth by 2030. - Achieve universal access to water and sanitation by 2030. Focus for - Put in place an investment mechanism to enhance sustainability. - Scale up sanitation coverage in rural and peri-urban areas to reach un-served communities . - Put in place an effective IMIS to improve planning, resource allocation and monitoring Water: 64% have access to improved water. Almost on-track for MDG Sanitation: 42% use improved toilets 17% practice O.D. Accelerating, but clearly off-track Inequalities: 50% Zambians access improved water source compared to 80% in urban

2014 Commitments MIS Finance Sanitation Sanitation National Monitoring
The MLGH in collaboration with WASH partners to increase to 60%, the number of people with access to improved sanitation in rural and urban areas by 2016. The Ministry of Local Government and Housing (MLGH) and the Ministry of Finance to jointly develop by 2016, a financing strategy, with specific investment targets for water and sanitation The MLGH to implement a strategy to sustain the number of people with access to improved sanitation and adoption of hygiene practices, such as hand washing. Finance Joint Approach Sustainability MIS Equality National Monitoring Capacity The MLGH to establish by 2016, a national Management of Information System for the water supply and sanitation sub-sector to be used for planning and reporting in 65 % of all districts of Zambia. The MLGH to develop and roll out by 2016, a capacity development strategy which will coordinate, harmonize, and prioritize capacity development activities in the Rural and Urban Water Supply and Sanitation sub-sector.
