4. A Matrix
A matrix is a rectangular arrangement of numbers in rows and columns.
Each number or item in a matrix is called an element.

6. Adding Matrices
In order to add matrices, you need to make sure that they have the same number of rows and columns.
If they do, you just add the corresponding elements. Top left of one with top left of the other, etc.
If they do not have the same amount of rows and columns, then you cannot add them and they are undefined.

8. Scalar Multiplication
Multiplying entire matrices is tough, and we won’t be doing it until later in the year.
In scalar multiplication, we multiply all the elements of a matrix by a number called a scalar.
A scalar just increases or decreases something. Think of it as “scaling up” or “scaling down.”

10. Inverses Additive Inverse
The same number with an opposite sign. So the additive inverse of 5 is -5, and the additive inverse of -11 is 11.
Multiplicative Inverse
Also called the Reciprocal.
For every number that is not 0, the multiplicative inverse is the flipped fraction of the number. For example, the inverse of 5 is 1/5, and the inverse of -1/11 is -11.
