2 Introduction Zika Virus is a member of the family (flaviviridae)
It is usually spread via the bite of mosquitoes within the Aedes kind The most common signs and symptoms are: fever – rash – joint pain – conjuctivitis Other symptoms that maybe present: muscle pain and headache The incubation period is about three to twelve days after the bite People don’t usually go to the hospital, and they very rarely die of Zika

Symptoms: Varying degrees of weakness or tingling sensations in the legs. When severe, the person is almost totally paralyzed. Life threatening condition.

How to protect yourself 1.Do not travel to areas with Zika 2. If you must travel, talk to your doctor or other healthcare provider first and take steps to plan to travel. If your sex partner travels to an area with Zika, protect yourself from getting Zika through sexual intercourse 3. Use Insect Repellent; Use Environmental protection agency (EPA)- registered agents with one of the active ingredients below. When used as directed, EPA- registered insect repellents are proven safe and effective, even for pregnant and breastfeeding women. 4. Always follow the product label instructions. 5. Reapply insect repellent as directed. 6. Do not spray repellent on the skin under clothing.

10 Treatment There is no specific medicine or vaccine for Zika virus, But we can do the following: Treat the symptoms Get plenty of rest Drink fluids to prevent dehydration Take medicine such as; Paracetamol to reduce fever and pain Do not take aspirin and other non-steroidal anti- inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) until dengue can be ruled out to reduce the risk of bleeding If you are taking medicine for another medical condition, talk to your healthcare provider before taking additional medication
