1 Munoz Enterprises, Inc. Best Practices

2 Automation & Communication
Improving productivity, efficiency and safety through automation and reliable communication infrastructure.

3 Best Practices: Robotic Service
Munoz Enterprises has introduced our new automated tank cleaning service to customers with the mission of alleviating all risks associated with confined space. When the project calls for contact with a chemical of high risk to human exposure, a collapsed or faulty internal floating roof, or just the common risks associated with tank entry. Standard tank cleaning methods call for entry into the tank, a confined space attendant to document the entrants time in and out, and an equipment operator for each piece of equipment associated with the task. Automated tank cleaning methods now allow the MEI to reduce the crew size. Automated tank cleaning can also be done in conjunction with degassing the tank reducing the duration of down time of the tank for the customer. Automated tank cleaning is achieved with a remote operated vehicle (ROV) or manway cannon. A ROV is hydraulically driven inside the tank with full vision via an intrinsically safe camera and light. The operating station for the ROV can be moved upwards of 50 feet away from the tank to keep all equipment and personnel outside the firewall or at a safe position.

7 Reliable communication infrastructure.
MEI has effectively enacted a safety communication tools that fosters an open safety culture communicate timely safety information more consistently and regularly to our employees. In order to build a safety-centric culture, we took the time and necessary steps to ingrain a “safety mentality” in our workforce. With constant reminders and safety warnings help make this communication effective, by ensuring that safety regulations are consistently conveyed across an array of mediums in a unique and visually stimulating manner. Millennials are quickly becoming a sizable portion of the workforce. These employees are conditioned to get their news and updates digitally, and immediately. Effective safety communication and consistent connectivity can be key to saving lives. Employees must trust that their employers have their well being in mind, and that proper safety notifications are being sent and observed in order to fully become a safety-centric workplace.

8 Best Practice- Daily Conference Call
Daily Conference Calls: MEI Documents all communication efforts, to demonstrate that our system of effective communication is in place. Munoz Enterprises has a conference call daily at 2pm. The attendees include our President, Vice President, Safety Director, Operations Manager, Office Administration Manager, all Project Managers, and all Supervisors. Each call has a safety moment that is read prior to collecting any other information from the call. The safety moment that is discussed is then used by the supervisors as the topic for their tailgate safety meeting with the crew the following day. During the conference call, the attendees discuss each project for that day elaborating on percentage complete, equipment issues, equipment rentals, delays, near misses, and forecasts for the following day. MEI feels this call is a pivotal asset to relay safety news to every employee with a simple, inexpensive, and accessible tool.

11 “Inspect what you Expect”
Complacency is the Enemy “We shall have no better conditions in the future if we are satisfied with all those which we have at present.” – Thomas Edison Setting the expectation and creating synergy amongst a team sends a strong message that complacency is not an option. By placing high importance on a Self-Audit program and inspecting what you expect, ensures that the operation is running safely, properly and efficiently.
