I am Donna Neal and I am honored to be serving my second term as District 6 Foundation Ambassador. I’ve been a feminist for just about my whole life. When I moved to Milwaukee and joined Zonta in 1991, I was looking for an opportunity for hands-on service and a means of connecting with like-minded women in an unfamiliar community. What impressed me about Zonta International was its global mission, reach, and impact. I continue to be inspired by Zonta projects to empower women and girls the world over, and Zonta programs to fight violence everywhere. For me, it’s all about thinking and acting both globally and locally. I am so proud of the work we all do together, and the impact we have on the lives of women and girls. I’m here today to talk about the global piece.

ZIF Projects and Programs:
ZIF Funding Zonta Members Friends of Zonta Zonta Clubs Dues Donations Donations Donations ZIF Projects and Programs: ZIF Service ZISVAW Scholarships and Awards Dues Zonta International Foundation supports the approved charitable and educational programs of Zonta International. The Foundation’s revenues come from donations from Zonta Clubs, Zontians, and friends of Zonta. Clubs are strongly encouraged to give at least 1/3 of the funds raised locally to the Foundation, keeping up to 2/3 for local service programs. Because dues paid to Zonta International support the operating costs of the Foundation, all of the contributions made to the foundation can go directly to program support. There are very few organizations that can make this claim. I hope you are all emphasizing this fact when you fund-raise for ZIF. ZIF Operating Expenses

Fundraising Goal US$5,376,000 For our fundraising goal is $ 5,376,000. Funding for these projects was adopted by the Convention. We raise funds to support the programs of the current biennium. If we do not raise the full amount, we have to use reserves. We have work to do! *ZISVAW: Zonta International Strategies to End Violence Against Women
5
Fundraising Goal US$5,376,000 Here are the projects and programs for the new biennium. Our education awards and scholarships are unchanged from the previous biennium. We have two continuing projects – the obstetric fistula project in Liberia, and the ZISVAW (Zonta International Strategies to Eradicate Violence Against Women) project fighting for education and against early marriage for girls in Niger. We have two new projects in this biennium, an education project for girls in Madagascar, and a safe migration/an anti-human trafficking project in Nepal. While we designate some projects as International Service and some as ZISVAW, our service projects have strong advocacy components, and our advocacy projects provide service. Just as at the local level, the lines between service and advocacy blur as we work to address issues in 360 fashion.

Young Women in Public Affairs Award
US$144,000 10 international awards of US$4,000 each 32 district/region awards of US$1,000 each I always like to talk about our scholarship programs first. What a way to impact the lives of young women globally and locally! How many of you submitted a candidate for a YWPA award last year? How many Clubs here have their own local YWPA scholarship? The Young Women in Public Affairs Award recognizes young women for their commitment to the volunteer sector, their volunteer leadership achievements and dedication to empowering women worldwide through service and advocacy. Since the program's inception, Zonta has given 804 awards, totaling $764,750, to 692 young women representing 54 countries.

Eliminating Obstetric Fistula in Liberia 2016-2018 Expected Outcomes
Improve the health and socio-economic status of more than 500 women and young girls Achieve a 25 percent reduction in the occurrence of obstetric and traumatic fistula Treat 500 women and girls living with fistula Increase knowledge of obstetric fistula in 50 communities Improve capacity of 50 local health practitioners Eight specialist doctors trained in fistula management and care Zonta has supported efforts to eliminate obstetric fistula in Liberia since During the last biennium, the Liberia Fistula Project moved from project-based treatment to treatment integrated into the government's national health system, so we know our efforts will be sustained once our project commitment is complete. As a result of our efforts in the last biennium, 1,079 women and girls with various types of fistulae were surgically treated, and 240 survivors have been rehabilitated and reintegrated into their mainstream communities. The goals for this Biennium are on the slide. They are quantitative and broad in their reach. Treating 500 girls! Training 50 doctors and nurses! Educating 50 communities! A 25% reduction in fistula. Wow!

Let Us Learn Madagascar: An Integrated Program for Adolescent Girls
Goals: Create opportunities for vulnerable and excluded girls to realize their rights to an education in a secure and protective environment. Promote a common vision of investing in junior secondary education for girls as a first step toward equality Our new International Service Project is Let Us Learn Madagascar. Currently, about 90 percent of Madagascar's population lives on less than $2 per day, leaving children particularly vulnerable. ¼ of children receive no formal education 1/3 of girls become pregnant before age 18 school enrollment fees are prohibitive for families, often causing parents to choose just one child for schooling, typically a boy-child Thus the program goals: (slide) Let Us Learn Madagascar is the nation's only program addressing issues of gender parity in education.

Let Us Learn Madagascar: An Integrated Program for Adolescent Girls Process
The program is focused on three pillars: Reaching out of school children Expanding girls’ education Improving quality outcomes for learners The program is focused on three pillars you see on the screen: The overall goal is to create opportunities for vulnerable and excluded girls to realize their rights to an education in a secure and protective environment.

Let Us Learn Madagascar: An Integrated Program for Adolescent Girls
Expected Outcomes: 1,042 post-primary teachers receive training 600 students receive catch-up classes 1,000 households receive conditional cash transfers for a two-year period Four classrooms are rehabilitated and constructed with appropriate facilities 50 percent of girls in school know about protection services that are available Like the Liberia Fistula Project, Let Us Learn Madagascar has aggressive, quantitative, measurable goals. Training over 1000 teachers! Bringing 600 students up to grade Helping 1000 households send girls to school Building modern and healthy classrooms Educating girls about protection and prevention services An awareness campaign will make families and communities aware of child protection laws and harmful practices so that adolescent girls are protected from sexual violence, early marriage and exploitation, all factors that reduce girls’ access to education.

Delaying Early Marriage in Niger
Goals: To reduce early marriage and early pregnancy in critical mass of communities in all regions of Niger Interventions are planned on three levels: Adolescent girls Community National We are continuing the early marriage project in Niger. Remember: Niger has the highest child marriage rate in the world. 30 percent of adolescent girls are married before 15 years old and 77 percent before 18. 42 percent give birth before 17 years old. Girls are exposed to medical and social risks, limiting their potential and their development. A high proportion of girls are not in school, and 73% of those aged cannot read or write. The goal of this project is to reduce early marriage and early pregnancy in a critical mass of communities and departments in all the regions of Niger. The pilot program ending in June 2015 successes included: Over 40,000 participated in 858 community dialogues Reading skills and family planning practices increased dramatically among participants Participants leaving the program want to marry at age 19 and have their first child at 21 Photo | What Took You So Long

The Future We Want: Creating Sustainable Foundations for Addressing Human Trafficking and Unsafe Migration of Women and Girls in Nepal Goal: Create sustainable foundations for addressing the intersection between human trafficking and foreign labor migration of women and girls in Nepal Our new ZISVAW project addresses human trafficking and unsafe migration in Nepal. Nepal has long been a country of origin for labor migration and trafficking in persons, particularly women and children, for the purposes of sexual, labor and other forms of exploitation. Trafficking often takes place as part of undocumented migration and is a serious violation of human rights. On the plus side, the government of Nepal is committed to combat human trafficking with comprehensive reform But, trafficking and migration are generally dealt with as separate issues with stand-alone approaches
16
Human Trafficking and Unsafe Migration of Women and Girls in Nepal
Expected Outcomes: Legislative and policy framework in place and effectively implemented Reduction in incidents of trafficking linked to foreign labor migration of women At-risk women provided economic opportunities and psychosocial counseling Read from slide Direct beneficiaries will include 600 survivors of trafficking and vulnerable women migrants. Indirect beneficiaries include 100,000 young people, community leaders, local authorities, camp coordinators, schools, families of migrants and members of networks from earthquake affected districts. The project will address both prevention of and response to trafficking.

To summarize, ZIF is supporting an impressive 4 ISP and ZISVAW projects in this biennium, along with our amazing award and scholarship programs. The goals are clear, the outcomes are meaningful and specific, and we will impact the lives of countless women and girls around the globe and here at home. The need is clear. So is the next step. Here comes the ask: As a Zontian, you have already made a personal commitment to build a better world for women. You have just heard about how our projects and programs, supported by the Zonta International Foundation, help women achieve a life free of violence and overcome gender barriers that hinder their access to health, education and professional advancement.

2016-18 District 6 ZIF Goals Biennium total contributions of $168,000
100% of Clubs donate each year All Clubs donate 1/3 of funds raised Number of individuals giving up at least 10% We approved four ZIF goals for the District earlier in this session. Thank you for your support! Through August 31, D6 contributions from individuals and Clubs totaled $11, At Fall Conference, we raised $6730. A respectable start but we still have a long way to go. Thank you for your effort so far! My plan to help us reach these goals is to: keep Clubs and members informed an excited about ZIF projects and programs help Clubs be more successful in their fund-raising activities and reverse the decline in Club giving inspire more District 6 Zontians to make individual contributions In the ZIF roundtable discussion later this afternoon, we will discuss how to bring ZIF projects and programs to the local level, how to leverage them in our local events and fund-raising, and how to make our fund-raising activities more successful, and hopefully more fun. Please make sure someone from your Club attends if possible. I am willing to visit Clubs if asked, or to share my presentation and materials so you can run programs yourselves in local Clubs.

Donate Today Donate to one of the following Funds:
Amelia Earhart Fellowship Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship Young Women in Public Affairs Award International Service ZISVAW Rose As most of you know, you can make your donation to any of the funds listed above. Donations to the three scholarship/award funds and to International Service or ZISVAW are restricted donations and can only be used for that purpose. Typically the YWPA fund is overfunded each biennium. Donations to the Rose Fund are unrestricted. There can never be too much money in the Rose Fund.

Campaigns and Giving Opportunities – Important Dates
ZISVAW Campaign (October) Every Member Every November Amelia Earhart Month (January) Zonta Rose Day/ International Women’s Day (March) Celebrating successful events or milestone anniversaries Memorials when Zontians pass away End of fiscal year – 31 May There are many opportunities to give throughout the year. No one is expected to participate in every campaign. Different appeals prompt action from different people. For example, I made my first contribution of the biennium, like many of you, at Convention in Nice in July. I made another contribution here at Fall Conference, and will make one last contribution before the end of the tax year. Through the biennium, many of us make donations in honor of other Zontians, in memory of friends or family members, or in lieu of birthdays, graduations, retirements, or other milestone events. Each of us makes her own decision.
22
In November, we remind Zontians that every member makes a difference
In November, we remind Zontians that every member makes a difference. On 8 November 2016, Zonta International will celebrate its 97th birthday. It would be so awesome if 100% of Zontians made a gift to ZIF in each biennium. What a statement that would make to friends of Zonta! That’s what we’re reminding members about with the November campaign. If you made a donation here at Fall Conference, go back to your Clubs and encourage other members to personally support the programs of Zonta International Foundation by making a contribution of their own. Remember, every cent goes to project support. By donating to the Foundation we join Zonta International in empowering women worldwide. Thank you very much for your attention and your generosity. Have a great Conference!
