NT Temple = Not a building!
Temple – place of God’s dwelling
History – Garden of Eden, God and Man in fellowship; After fall – tabernacle and temple used to recapture Eden experience; NT – Jesus fulfills sacrificial system, veil is torn, Spirit indwelling
1 Cor. 3:16, 6:19; Eph. 2:20-22; I Peter 2:4-10
Altar combined with Temple – referring to inner court (See slide with pic)
Altar – same as the one in 8:3, 6:9
Sacrifices of the martyrs
Possible Interpretations of the Measuring:
Rebuilding or restoring the church
Possible, but does not seem to fit the overall context
Destruction of apostates
No emphasis of judgment by God here – from Gentiles
Preserving the people of God from physical harm
Problem – v.2 physical harm allowed
Preserving the saints from spiritual harm
Most likely – spiritual protection in coming tribulation
Saints are the temple in NT
Physical harm does happen – 6:9-11; 13:7 – from the beast
