Self Denial Cross Bearing Following Christ Non-conformance to the world standard Paradoxical living (in but NOT of….) Making disciples Sacrifice, Sharing and Serving Change/Transformation

4 The Challenge of Discipleship
There is a lot to do You wear many hats The world is more connected than ever before Time is of the essence—everything moves FAST Devotion pushed out of discipleship by duty Blurring of boundaries

5 Close to the Edge -Emotionally
Irritability Anger Anxiety Depression Distress/Discouragement Emotional Collapse Sudden crying Outburst

6 Close to the Edge - Physically
Muscle tension Tension headaches Stomach and Bowel trouble High blood pressure Heart palpitations Chest pains Dizziness Substance abuse

7 Close to the Edge - Spiritually
Withdrawal from faith community Apathy in worship and service Persistent negative thinking Dramatic changes in sleep habits Hopelessness Fearfulness Conflict, Chaos in relationships

8 How Can This BE? An overflowing plate The illusion of control
The illusion of being indispensable Perfectionism Fear of failure Desire to please others Being defined by what you do rather than who you are Inability to ask for assistance Lack of boundaries Diminished time for spiritual devotion and renewal

9 Prescription – BALANCE!

10 What Can I Do?

11 Be Practical Devote time to devotions Focus where you have been called
Surround yourself with a team that works well Be intentional about Sabbath rest Manage your time Establish clear boundaries Make your family a priority—NO MATTER WHAT! Exercise, Eat Right, Get enough sleep Go to the doctor for regular check-ups and when something doesn’t feel right

12 YOU CANNOT CARE FOR THE THINGS OF GOD, THE PEOPLE OF GOD OR YOUR FAMILY UNLESS YOU CARE FOR YOURSELF!

13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man
