Conversion Between Roman and Arabic Numerals
The Roman numeral system is a system of writing numbers using a combination of M (1,000), D (500), C (100), L (50), X (10), V (5) and I (1) The Arabic numeral system is most familiar (we use it – 1, 2, 3, etc…) Here are some examples…

English and Metric Systems
Measurement English and Metric Systems The metric system is a system of measurement based on prefixes. Every prefix corresponds to a power of 10. Every unit of measure has a root word. Both systems can be compared to each other. Many tools can be employed to measure.

Dependent and Independent Variables
Data interpretation Dependent and Independent Variables Every set of data has dependent and independent variables. The independent variable is put into the set of data (input). The dependent variable is the output based on the input.

Data Interpretation using Tables, Charts, Circles and Lines
Tables are helpful for organizing raw data. Charts (or bar/histogram) are displayed as non-touching vertical bars. Circle (or pie) graphs are divided into sectors representing an event frequency. Line graphs compare the relationship between two quantities (x vs. y).

Algebraic Applications
Polynomial Terminology (simply put!) Expression: a polynomial with a combination of terms (mono-, bi-, tri-, etc…) Term: a separated constant or variable Like Terms: have the same variable or exponent Constant: an unchanging quantity Coefficient: the numerical part of a term Variable: the unknown part of a term Dividend/Divisor: numerator/demoninator Quotient: the answer

Solving Equations with One Unknown
Remove any parentheses. Remove fractions by multiplying each term with the LCD. Move like terms together on both sides of the equation. Isolate the variable by multiplying both sides of the equation by the reciprocal of the coefficient of the variable. Check the solution.

Solving Equations with Absolute Values
The absolute value of a number (n), written as |n|, is the distance between the number n and zero on the number line. |n| = n when n is a positive number |n| = -n when n is a negative number
