1 Role of Plants in Mitigation of Environmental Impact During Construction Phase of Building Projects: A Case Study of Curaj Campus. Binita Kumari1, K.C.Sharma2 1Central University of Jharkhand (INDIA), 2 Central University of Rajasthan (INDIA), 2 Introduction Methods and Governing Equation Methods and Governing Equation For the fulfilments of the basic needs and facilities to the second largest population of globe, the policy makers proposed many activities for the development. For example, construction activities for cities, metro, railway etc. These activities cause the anthropogenic contamination and pollution also. Therefore, The concept of the “Smart Cities” comes under new agenda of planning and managements. Furthermore, for the mitigation of such types of impacts on environment, Government of India, draft EIA notification 2006 for imposing certain restrictions and prohibitions on activities based on their potential environmental impacts. Therefore, we studied the role of plants and green cover in mitigation of the pollution during the construction phase of 10 large building's. The study will helpful for the design and computation of management plan during the post- EIA implementation. Pre-Construction Investigation Construction Phase Investigation Post-Construction Investigation Plantation Phase Activities Simpson’s Index Computation PM10 &PM2.5 Air Pollutants PM 10 & 2.5 Computation Results Plant Diversity Assessment Objective Sampling Instruments and Plan Plant Biodiversity 1. Dominant Plant Species – Acacia nilotica , Prosopis cineraria , Zyzipus nummularia , Cyperus rotundus , Corchorus depressus 2. The total groundcover is 7.77% where as 45% as green belt of dominants species of plants. PM10 and PM APM460 High Volume Sampler NOx and SOx Personal Gaseous Sampler CO and Other Air Pollution Station located at 200m distance from buildings The aim of this research is to investigate the possible impacts of construction activities on environmental variables and the mitigation efficiency of plants cover area. The specific research questions are: To simulate the concentration of different environmental parameters using a conceptual approach. To compare the fluxes of physical equilibrium/non-equilibrium of pollutant and particulates transport in and around the construction area. The comparatives analysis of pre, during operation, and post events of construction shows the decreasing concentration in SOx, NOx,HC,O3,RSPM,TSPM level by 0.66 μg/m3, 1.02 μg/m3,0.19 μg/m3 ,0.23μg/m3,5.2 μg/m3 ,7.4 μg/m3 respectively. The water qualities affected by very small differences and final results as pH, EC, TDS .Salinity, Alkalinity is about 7.4, 584,262 ppm, 26.3 μg/l, 530 μg/l respectively. The area having 0.75 surface run-off coefficients having under control hydrological parameters. Study Area Conclusion The Central University of Rajasthan , is located at Bander Sindri, Dist. Ajmer and on 80 KM from Jaipur on NH8. The University is established under central university act 2009 and under construction phase of the campus. Agro-climate of the area is semi-arid types and the total annual precipitation is about 500 mm and aridity Index is The Latitude and Longitude of Central University of Rajasthan is & respectively. Water Samples by titration methods of the different parameters The investigation showed that the linear relationship between the concentration of pollutant during the pre- construction and during construction and post construction phase. The Plantation activities affects the pollutant level in and around the area during all phase. The dominant native plants species are more effective for the mitigation of pollutants. Furthermore, Research are needed for the multidimensional study and the long term investigation. And also the compute the potential of individual plant species for the mitigation.
