3. Is Lr right for you?
Need basic computer skills, no need to be a genius!
Are beyond jpeg, ‘click & done’; you shoot RAW and want to develop the amazing imaging potential of RAW files.
RAW is analogous to film negative
RAW file potential is huge compared to film negative
Familiarity with digital photography basics; white balance etc.

5. .RAW vs .JPEG Lr can process both (and TIFF, PSD)
JPEG is already processed in-camera (often poorly) and no longer possesses the pixel-plyability that RAW ‘negatives’ possesses
Cameras today are designed to produce flat RAW files for post-processing; ‘darkroom’ work
RAW gives you maximum latitude in processing
RAW opens up the vast world of creative possibilities with post processing in Lr, Ps, On1, NIK, Topaz and many other creative tools.

6. What is Lr Catalog? Lr Catalog is a database that indexes your photos.
This allows you to organize thousands of digital images, easily finding any photo, thanks to Lr’s robust search tools and other organizational features.
In modern words, the wooden box that is the card catalog is a “database” and each book that it indexes is an “object.” Each index card acts as a reference point, or placeholder, for a particular object that the library is storing. When the librarians add new books into the library’s holdings they also add new index cards into the wooden card catalog box.  The card catalog allows library visitors to track down exactly which books they need in no time.

7. Lr Modules Lr consists of several modules
Library, Develop and Print are the major modules
Develop Module includes the Adobe Camera RAW, shared with Adobe Photoshop
Map relates to Library as part of image cataloging and searching facility
Book, Slideshow and Web are limited in functionality.

9. Develop Module All adjustments in Lr are non-destructive
All pixels remain untouched; the RAW file remains raw – like a pristine digital negative
All adjustments are recorded and can be played back and changed, deleted or evolved ad infinitum
Adjustments are stored in a ‘side-car’ file or internal to the RAW file depending on the selected Preference.
Develop Module can produce Panorama and HDR composites in RAW (.dng) format – very powerful
