Students will reflect on the Film History movement discussed and construct a short film that pays homage to its predecessor. The short film’s homage must be readily apparent or apparent after reading the student’s Independent Commentary to earn full credit. Students should creatively develop methods for compensating for budget and special effects limitations. OMG! Each project may be the work of an individual or of a group of students. Group size must not exceed three.

Pre-Production • director • writer • cinematographer
The roles to be undertaken for assessment purposes must be one of the following: • director • writer • cinematographer • sound designer, recorder or mixer • editor Pre-Production A student may undertake more than one role in a production, and some roles may be carried out by more than one student. However, for the purposes of assessment each student must identify their principal role on the coversheet provided and this is the role on which they will be assessed. Two students from the same group cannot choose to be assessed in the same principal role.

As a group you will need to plan what you need to do in order to pay homage to the Film History movement discussed. Consider storyboarding each shot noting its duration, angle, distance, and sound Pre-Production Production will begin ___________________, so delegate roles so that your group can use the production time efficiently. We are limited in time (50mins) and location (school), so think of creative ways to overcome those obstacles.

Review the Film Movement elements and begin thinking about which one you would like to pay homage to, as well as the number of people you would need to pull of this task. Think about actors, camera/audio operators, etc. Construct a proposal explaining what you need to recreate the scene and submit it for approval. Pre-Production Proposals will be submitted by _______________. Proposals must be approved before production can begin. If proposals are rejected they must revised with respect to the issues raised and resubmitted.
9
Per your proposal, your group will receive its requested equipment at the beginning of class. The equipment must be returned (unharmed) ten minutes before the end of class. You must adhere to your proposal with respect to shooting locations. Production If an issue arises or an adjustment needs to be made you must amend your proposal and resubmit it. Approval of amendments is not guaranteed and you may have to make due with your original proposal.

Production: Documentation
Each film project must be accompanied by: • an individual written commentary between 500-1,000 words; the written commentary should be based on the student’s personal production journal Production: Documentation written commentary Typed 12 pt font Times New Roman Double spaced
12
Production: Written Commentary
The individual written commentary should be the student’s own unaided work. It should give a concise, reflective account of all stages of the production process, and should also include an evaluation of the completed project as a whole. Any special circumstances surrounding the production process should be mentioned, and any outside help received (e.g., technical support) must be acknowledged. Production: Written Commentary Where appropriate, you must incorporate sample production materials (e.g., frames from storyboards, schedules, floor plans) into your commentary. However, such materials should not stand apart from the commentary or form an appendix. The portfolio as a whole must reflect a clear understanding of how meaning is constructed through the appropriate use of film language.
