Final lesson from Psalm 119 for now Less directly about the word of God More about relationship with God Though that relationship is only possible through the word God is the only portion we will ever need. So: What is the greatest thing you want from your life?

The Lord Viewed As A Portion
Originates in the Mosaic Covenant Tribe of Levi is chosen as priests to God and denied any portion in the promised land. God, Himself, is to be their one and only portion.

Numbers 18:20 “Then the Lord said to Aaron, ‘You shall have no inheritance in their land nor own any portion among them; I am your portion and your inheritance among the sons of Israel.”

Deuteronomy 10:9 “Therefore, Levi does not have a portion or inheritance with his brothers; the Lord is his inheritance, just as the Lord your God spoke to him.” Joshua 18:7 – “For the Levites have no portion among you, because the priesthood of the Lord is their inheritance….”

Levi Fed And Cared For By Sacrifices
Leviticus 6:15-17 – “Then one of them shall lift up from it a handful of the fine flour of the grain offering, with its oil and all the incense that is on the grain offering, and he shall offer it up in smoke on the altar, a soothing aroma, as its memorial offering to the Lord. What is left of it Aaron and his sons are to eat. It shall be eaten as unleavened cakes in a holy place; they are to eat it in the court of the tent of meeting. It shall not be baked with leaven. I have given it as their share from My offerings by fire; it is most holy, like the sin offering and the guilt offering.”

Leviticus 6:25-26 “Speak to Aaron and to his sons, saying, ‘This is the law of the sin offering: in the place where the burnt offering is slain the sin offering shall be slain before the Lord; it is most holy. The priest who offers it for sin shall eat it. It shall be eaten in a holy place, in the court of the tent of meeting.

Supported Through The Tithes
Numbers 18:24 – “For the tithe of the sons of Israel, which they offer as an offering to the Lord, I have given to the Levites for an inheritance; therefore I have said concerning them, ‘They shall have no inheritance among the sons of Israel.’”

God Viewed As Our Inheritance
Psalm 16:5 – “The Lord is the portion of my inheritance and my cup; You support my lot.” Jeremiah 10:16 – “The portion of Jacob is not like these; for the Maker of all is He, and Israel is the tribe of His inheritance; The Lord of hosts is His name.”

Jesus Our Inheritance Ephesians 1:18 – “I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints….”

The Lord Is MY Portion Psalm 119:57 – “The Lord is my portion; I have promised to keep Your words.” Keeping God’s word is inherent in knowing God as our portion. Lamentations 3:22-24 – “The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. ‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘Therefore I have hope in Him.’”

He Provides Me With Strength
Psalm 73:26 – “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. And my refuge Psalm 142:5 – “I cried out to You, O Lord; I said, ‘You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.’”

After feeding the multitude on miraculous bread and fish Jesus calls Himself “living bread” and promises eternal life to those who eat of Him. V. 53 – “…unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves.” V. 55 – “For My flesh is true food, and My blood is true drink.”

Jesus The One Fullness John 1:16 – “For of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace.” Jesus our All in All Colossians 3:11 – “…a renewal in which there is no distinction between Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and freeman, but Christ is all, and in all.”

Matthew 13:44 -- “The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in the field, which a man found and hid again; and from joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.
