Measuring and Constructing Segments
Geometry Farris 2015
2
I can find the length and midpoint of a segment and construct midpoints and congruent line segments.
3
Coordinate A point that corresponds to one and only one number. Postulate (Ruler Postulate) The points on a line can be put into a one-to-one correspondence with the real numbers.
4
Construction A way of creating a figure that is more precise. An example is constructing a geometric figure using a compass and straightedge.
5
Copy a SEGment
6
Postulate 1-2-2 (Segment Addition Postulate)
If B is between A and C, Then AB + BC = AC A B C . . .
7
B is between A and C. AC = 12, and BC = 8. Find AB.
Let’s Do It! B is between A and C. AC = 12, and BC = 8. Find AB. AC = AB + BC Seg. Add. Post 12 = AB + 8 Substitute 12 for AC and 8 for BC Subtract 8 from both sides 4 = AB Simplify
8
Segment Bisector Any ray, segment, or line that intersects a segment at its midpoint. It divides the segment into two equal parts at its midpoint.
