Mr & Mrs Smith, 53 & 52, Beccles - Suffolk
Once they had successfully stopped smoking Mr & Mrs Smith noticed their sense of smell had increased and they cleaned their home from top to bottom to rid the house of the smell of smoke! Mr & Mrs Smith, 53 & 52, Beccles - Suffolk Mr Smith previously had two heart attacks and two strokes. After having four stents fitted Mr Smith was urged to stop smoking by his hospital consultant. Mr Smith was very reluctant to give it a go at first because he felt he couldn’t go without smoking. Mrs Smith was worried about her husband’s health and knew that he would struggle to quit while she was still smoking too. They were referred in to the Stop Smoking Service in July 2016 and were initially unsure about quitting. Lea, their Stop Smoking Adviser focused on their motivation to improve his health. Lea told Mr Smith that tobacco contains over 4,500 toxic chemicals and explained the effect that some of these chemicals were having on his body. They both decided to use nicotine replacement patches and mouth spray to control their cravings and access regular support through OneLife. Mr Smith & Mrs Smith have remained smoke free and the money they would have spent on tobacco has already allowed them to spend an extra two weeks at their caravan. Carol with Stop Smoking Practitioner Sue Stop Smoking Service, Ipswich
Carol attended the Stop Smoking clinic in August, as she had been having breathing difficulties and felt ready to quit smoking. During the last few months, Carol had found difficulty walking upstairs due to increased breathlessness and had to rest on the bed, once upstairs, to recover. Carol was smoking about 20 cigarettes a day and had smoked for many years. During the consultation it was decided that Carol would prefer to use Nicotine Replacement Therapy and as such, the products were issued at the first appointment. Carol set her quit day for the following week and quit as planned. At the appointments, Carol’s Carbon Monoxide readings were taken, and the levels of CO reduced significantly. Carol’s breathing improved and she says she feels much healthier. Carol looks forward to her appointments, especially having her CO reading checked, and has now been smoke free for 2 months. Jodie Dix, 21 Stowmarket. Jodie came to OneLifeSuffolk as a smoker age 21 she was 27 weeks pregnant. She was very open and brave as she was having complications with her pregnancy because of smoking. With support from her father (standing on the left) they accessed the stop smoking service seeing Tom Firkins (standing on the right) on a weekly basis. Here is Jodie’s story: I found out about OneLifeSuffolk through my Midwife. She suggested that I gave them a call even though I had cut down to one cigarette a day I was still having complications in my pregnancy. I realised all the risks I was facing from smoking and reached out to OneLifeSuffolk to help me kick the habit to ensure my daughter and I a healthier lifestyle and a brighter future. Because of quitting smoking at 27 weeks pregnant and with the support from OneLifeSuffolk instead of having a premature birth I went on to complete the full term of my pregnancy. I have now given birth to a healthy baby girl who gives me all the joy a baby girl should. With the support I was given I am now confident that I will be able to stay smoke free for the sake of myself and my daughter. REPLACE PICTURE: RIGHT CLICK > CHANGE PICTURE
