English Maths Geography
It’s probably the most famous date in English history... we’re travelling back to 1066! These are troubled times and there is danger afoot. A much-loved king is dead and a French Duke has staked a claim for our kingdom. Not to mention all the other wannabe monarchs! Discover a changing England, shaped by shires, protected by castles and ruled by foreign knights! Are you ready for the Norman invasion? Then don your armour and watch your back! English Harold’s claim to the throne is under threat from three powerful men. Backed by a council of advisers and Harold himself we will create a play script involving each challenger and their claim to the throne. A gruesome battle has just taken place and the Bayeux Tapestry tells us all. But wait, we were there and saw it all happen before our eyes. Of course, we need to tell the world by becoming journalists. We will create a Newspaper Report by doing just that. We will put our English skills into practice and tell the gruelling tale of the Battle of Hastings. Once we have truly lived like Normans we will record all and produce a diary entry in the day of life of a real Norman. History The year is 1066, Edward the Confessor is dying and he’s asked Harold to take over his throne. William Duke of Normandy is not pleased. We will create a timeline that sequences these events and will use a range of sources to find out what happened at the Battle of Hastings. Maths This term we will continue to focus our efforts on learning the difference between perimeter and area of various 2d shapes. Pupils will re-cap coordinates and describing how to transformation different shapes. We will then go on to learn more about line graphs and pictograms. Geography If we are going to live like Normans we will develop our skills of identifying good and bad places for building Norman castles. We will then use this knowledge to build our very own Fortages. We will create drawbridges to keep out the enemy and will explain how the y work. Art It is essential every Norman has their own heraldic coat of arms. We will create a class embroidered panel. PSHE Just like the Normans we will share experiences of everyday conflicts we face.
