2.04 Understand the functions and disorders of the lymphatic system
Hodgkin disease is a type of lymphoma. Lymphoma is cancer of lymph tissue found in the lymph nodes, spleen, liver, and bone marrow. The first sign of Hodgkin disease is often an enlarged lymph node. The disease can spread to nearby lymph nodes. Later it may spread to the lungs, liver or bone marrow. The cause is unknown. 2.04 Understand the functions and disorders of the lymphatic system

2.04 Understand the functions and disorders of the lymphatic system
Lymphadenitis is an infection of the lymph nodes (also called lymph glands). It is a common complication of certain bacterial infections. Lymphadenitis occurs when the glands become enlarged by swelling (inflammation), usually in response to bacteria, viruses, or fungi. The swollen glands are usually found near the site of an infection, tumor, or inflammation. 2.04 Understand the functions and disorders of the lymphatic system

Red, tender skin over lymph node Swollen, tender, or hard lymph nodes Lymph nodes may feel rubbery if an abscess has formed. Prompt treatment with antibiotics usually leads to a complete recovery. However, it may take weeks, or even months, for swelling to disappear. The amount of time to recovery depends on the cause 2.04 Understand the functions and disorders of the lymphatic system

2.04 Understand the functions and disorders of the lymphatic system
The lymphatic system collects excess fluid and proteins from body tissues and carries them back to the bloodstream. Edema, or swelling, may happen when there is an increase in the amount of fluid or because of a blockage in the lymphatic system. The accumulation of lymph is called lymphedema. 2.04 Understand the functions and disorders of the lymphatic system
