3 Vertical View Toolbar The Vertical View Toolbar runs vertically down the left side of the interface. You can run your mouse over the icons to get a pop-up of what each icon does. The icons located on the Vertical View Toolbar include: Student/Normal View Thumbnail Monitor Student Audio Monitor Internet Access Manager Application Manager Survey Manager Print Manager Instant Message Monitor Device Manager Keyboard Manager Whiteboard

4 Vertical View Toolbar: Normal View and Thumbnails
The Normal View, or “Display the list of Students”, allows you to see the students and the computers they are assigned to in icon form. The “Thumbnail” view allows you to see the screens of the computers that your students use. You can click on the icons in the lower left corner (and the 4th pull-down menu, “View”, to change the frequency of updating the screens, the size of the thumbnails or scale-to-fit, to see the active internet sites and applications, and by clicking on the last icon, “Zoomed Mode”.

5 Vertical View Toolbar: Student Audio Monitor
This feature allows you to monitor the audio activity of select students. Click on a particular student’s laptop icon in order to hear the activities within the audible range of that student’s computer Be sure to use this feature responsibly…don’t encroach upon a student’s privacy!

6 Vertical View Toolbar: Internet Manager
The third vertical icon is Internet Manager. This feature will show you which students are on restricted sites, allow you to add new sites to your lists, and to manage the internet experience without overriding the institution’s filters. The buttons in the lower corner (and the 5th pull-down menu, “Web”, are for making new internet lists, loading saved lists, and for controlling what sites the students can visit. Other options include: Block FTP sites, Safe Search, and a new Internet icon called “Web Access” on the Horizontal Icon Toolbar. You can also drag and drop sites from one side to the other and the name of the current list is located in the lower right hand corner.

7 Vertical View Toolbar: Internet Manager, continued
Block FTP sites— FTP sites carry downloads. Stop students from going to these sites and downloading items that they shouldn’t be. Safe Search mode: This will stop inappropriate websites from being displayed while students are using any search engines. For example, if Google is the search engine that a student is using and you have “Safe Search” activated, Google will only bring back what it considers to be “safe”.

8 Vertical View Toolbar: Application Manager
The 5th icon on the vertical view toolbar is the Application Manager. This is like the “Internet Access Manager”, but for applications. The 5th pull-down menu, “Applications”, has the same menu items as the lower icons.

9 Vertical View Toolbar: Survey Manager
The 6th vertical icon on the Vertical View toolbar is the Survey Manager. It allows you to make surveys or quick polls. When you send the question to the clients (students), you will see the results in the right panel. You can create new, edit and save surveys, just like when you are making internet and application lists. You can only send one survey question at a time. You will need to format your question that can be answered in one of these ways: Yes, No Yes, No, Maybe Yes, No, Don’t Know True, False

10 Vertical View Toolbar: Print Management
“Print Management” allows you to control every aspect of students’ printing: preventing students from printing assigning page limits requiring Tutor authorization to print As students request print jobs, you have the option to let the print job print, or to delete it. “Print Management” supports multiple printers within a classroom, prevents the addition, deletion, or modification of existing printers, and provides printing usage summaries as part of the Student Register.

11 Vertical View Toolbar: Instant Messenger Manager
The Instant Messenger Manager allows you to manage the various messenger programs that are available. You are able to allow, block, and monitor these messenger programs. The Instant Messenger Manager allows you to turn on and off instant messenger in the class, as well as the use of it, if allowed. This manager allows usage, and also gives history, filters, startup modes, and print capability.

12 Vertical View Toolbar: Device Manager
The Device Manager allows you to protect against potential external sources of malware (such as flash drives), or the misuse of such devices, such as iPods. The Device Manager allows you to choose how much a student can use these devices. The tutor’s options in managing the CD/DVD drive and USB devices include: Unrestricted Read Only Block Access Allow Execute Prevent Execute Each client (student) can be assigned a different level of access You can also choose to mute all students’ computers.

13 Vertical View Toolbar: Keyboard Manager
The Keyboard Manager allows you to monitor all keyboard usage while using any running application. This provides a real-time insight into student activity during a class. The Tutor can monitor the entire class, quickly view any typed content, and keep an eye on student activity levels. The Keyboard Manager does not monitor password information.

14 Vertical View Toolbar: Whiteboard
The last icon on the Vertical View toolbar is the Whiteboard icon. From here, you can draw, write, or whatever you like, and then pass the control to a student to continue your work. These images can be saved. When a student is granted control of the Whiteboard function, their screen will feature a notification at the top of their screen that they are “leading” the Whiteboard.

The Whiteboard contains several icons: “Show” icon which activates the Whiteboard function for each client’s computer “File” saves the Whiteboard or Selection; or Load images “Edit” –allows you to clear the whiteboard, insert an image, copy, paste, undo, redo “Tools” , including Brush, Rectangle, Circle, Line, Text, Eraser, Highlighter, Fill, Selection, and Arrow “Colour” : The small paintbrush is the color palette of the TOOLS; allows you to choose from a variety of colors “Line Width” : allows you to alter the width of a line “Font” : Allows you to change the font and style of the font Undo Redo

The Horizontal Icon Toolbar is located near the top of the interface. Refresh Student Register Journal “Show” Menu View Client Scan File Transfer Send/Collect Lock Unlock Co-Browse Web Access Blank All Manage Communicate Lesson Plans Teaching Console

17 Horizontal Icon Toolbar: Refresh
If a student has been disconnected, use this icon to reconnect them. If a student turns off their computer, the “Refresh” icon cannot reconnect their computer.

18 Horizontal Icon Toolbar: Student Register
With the “Student Register” feature, you can prompt for logged-in user name, full name, class, and ID number, and ask for up to 2 custom questions for your Registration Report. Using the “down” arrow next to the icon, you can Sign In, Sign Out, or go to the “Registration Report”. Within the Registration Report, you can view, print, and save the responses.

19 Horizontal Icon Toolbar: Journal
This feature is used for recording important moments in class and saving them locally for easy access. SchoolVue’s Journal works with Adobe Acrobat and saves the daily journals in a .pdf format. You can start a Journal with the drop-down menu. Your Journal can include text and screenshots, lists, and links. The “Journal” menu allows you to: Start a Journal Add a note or screen shot to a student’s journal Send the list of approved web sites to the student’s journal Send the list of target words to the View the current journal Open a journal folder

20 Horizontal Icon Toolbar: Show
Click on the “down” arrow next to Show, and you will have options of “Show Your Screen”, “Show Video”, “Show Reply”, “Show Application”, “Exhibit”, and “End Show”. “Show” will display your entire screen to the chosen students. A menu will appear that will give you choices, such as: enabling audio having a balloon pop up on the student’s computer showing the hotkeys the teacher used screen scape (show in bitmap mode for heavy graphic programs) whether or not you want the demo you give to be recorded for later playback

Click the “Set Show Mode at Client” option and move between a full screen or a window to have the students work with you Click the “Create Replay file at Student” and give your presentation. Your presentation will be in video on the student’s laptop! Left-mouse click one of the client’s green checkmarks to exclude them from “Show”

“Exhibit” is the way to show a student’s screen to the others. Choose a client that you want to Show, click “Exhibit” and a window will appear, listing all other computers. When ready, click “Exhibit”, knowing that you will have full control unless you pass on the control. “Show Application” brings up a similar window to the “Show” menu, but with a “Select Application” button. Go to your desktop and open any application. Go back to your “Show Application” menu and drag the “bullseye” over the application you opened on your computer. Your application will appear with a purple outline. Upon release of your mouse, your application will show up in the application field ready to Show your application!

23 Horizontal Icon Toolbar: View Client
The “View Client” feature allows you to remote-control a client machine (one at a time) and allow that student to view first-hand how to perform a particular function. There are several icons available in the “View Client” mode: View Mode Scale to Fit Full Screen File Transfer Chat Message Execute Clipboard Audio Settings Logout Blank Capture Annotate CTRL+ALT+DEL

The “View Mode” has three options that allow you control over the mouse and the keyboard: Share—Share the mouse and keyboard with the PC Watch—Watch the student’s screen Control—Take control of the student’s computer The “Scale-To-Fit” and “Full Screen” options are for your viewing preferences File Transfer allows you to send some or all of your students files simultaneously instead of one at a time Chat allows you to select one or more students and have a virtual conversation with them without disturbing other members of the class Message allows you to send a message to an individual student directly without notifying others

25 Horizontal Icon Toolbar: View Client, continued
Execute allows you to shut down an application on one or more students’ computers; this is done primarily when they are using an application inappropriately. Clipboard is similar to the clipboard function in a word processing program. It allows you to copy and paste information. Audio has many options: Audio On :Talk and listen with this PC Audio Off :Turn audio off Talk: Talk to the PC Listen—Listen to the PC Settings—Adjust Audio Settings

26 Horizontal Icon Toolbar: View Client, continued
Capture is used just like “Print Screen” on the laptop. Using “Capture” will take a picture of the viewed screen and open a window box for you to save the picture as a .bmp file. Annotate is basically the same as we found in the “Show” feature CTRL+ALT+DEL allows you to bring up the “Task Window” on the student’s computer. When you are ready to close the remote control session, you have 2 options: The pull-down menu of Client has “Close” You can click on the red box with an “X” in the upper-right corner of the remote control session

27 Horizontal Icon Toolbar: Scan
Scan is similar to an internet picture slideshow. You can choose how many students that can be viewed at a time. You can choose to eliminate a student from the scan if you want. To do so, click the green check mark to leave them out of your scan.

28 Horizontal Icon Toolbar: File Transfer
File Transfer is a 1-to-1 drag and drop feature. It features several options such as: Directory Copy Directory Delete File Overwrite File Delete Use Compression Data File Transfer

29 Horizontal Icon Toolbar: File Distribution
File Distribution, much like File Transfer, has the ability to transfer files from the client’s computer to the tutor’s computer. File Distribution allows you to transfer files to more than one computer at a time. You also have the option of deleting the file from the client’s computer once the file is collected.

30 Horizontal Icon Toolbar: Send Work
The “Send Work” feature has the ability to send files from the teacher’s computer to any or all of the students’ computers…to the exact folder and then collect the file and delete it from the students’ computers. You can use the Class Wizard for “Send Work”. Browse to the location on your computer where the desired file is located. At the bottom of the screen you can select where on the students’ computers that the file will be sent.

31 Horizontal Icon Toolbar: Send/Collect Work
The “Collect Work” feature allows you to determine which file that you want to retrieve from students’ computers, such as a report document. You can also choose the location on the students’ computers where the desired file is located in order to retrieve it. You can also choose to “Send/Collect Work”, which allows you to send a file to students’ computers and simultaneously retrieve a file from a location on their computers.

When using the “Send/Collect” feature,the sending and retrieval process can be completely automated. In the “Send/Collect” process, there are several options that will help you manage files, such as: Delete all files from Folder before Sending work Remove files from Student after collecting Students store work on a Network Drive

33 Horizontal Icon Toolbar: Lock and Unlock
Toggling between the “Lock” and “Unlock” icons on the Horizontal Icon Toolbar allows you to lock and unlock the selected student computers’ keyboard and mouse. In addition, a screen will appear on these students’ computer screens that says “Your attention is required”. You will be able to unlock one student computer at a time, if desired.

34 Horizontal Icon Toolbar: Co-Browse
“Co-Browse” allows the class to browse the internet in sync with the tutor’s computer; as you go to a different website, or follow a link, your students’ computers will, too! The “Back”, “Forward”, “Stop”, “Refresh”, “Home”, and “Print” icons are just like what you see when browsing on the internet. “Pause” stops the co-browsing and puts it on hold until you press the “Pause” button again. “Synchronize” starts and stops the co-browsing ability. The “Locked” icon gives you the ability to let the students work freely on their own, and then pull them back in by locking and synchronizing their computers with the Tutor.

35 Horizontal Icon Toolbar: Web Access/Blank All
The “Web Access” icon allows you to select the amount of access a student will have when using their internet browser. There are 4 selections: Unrestricted :Unrestricted Web access Approved Only :Allow approved websites only Block Restricted :Block restricted websites Restrict All :Restrict all websites “Blank All” allows you to turn all connected students’ computers dark, as if they are turned off. You will be able to see their screens on your computer, but the students will not be able to see their screens.

36 Horizontal Icon Toolbar: Manage
The “Manage” icon features several tools that you might make use of every day: Power On : Turn on selected machines Power Off : Turn off selected machines Reboot : Reboot selected machines Login : Log in selected students Logout : Log Out selected students

37 Horizontal Icon Toolbar: Communicate
The “Communicate” icon features many useful tools for communicating with students in the class: Chat : similar to Instant Messaging, but is constrained to the class and is completely managed by the Tutor Message : Send a message to selected students Announce : Send an Announcement to selected students; for use with speakers and microphones Manage Preset Messages : Create preset messages for quickly sending to students

38 Horizontal Icon Toolbar: Lesson Plans
The “Lesson Plans” feature is designed to organize the actions that have been previously seen in SchoolVue and assign starting and stopping times in order to save them for another time. 1) Click on “Lesson Plans: Manage Plans” 2) You’ll have a blank slate and you can enter an author and a description now (lower left of window) 3) Think about how you want your lesson to go by choosing the available actions on the right side. Drag or add what actions you want and move them to their respective order. Click “OK” 4) Add the next item by dragging the action to the left side. 5) Change the times within the selected actions to complete a class (see the total lesson plan) 6) Use the icons in the toolbar (add,edit, delete, move up, etc.) to make the changes you want to your new lesson plan 7) Click “Okay”, choose Yes, and save it.

40 Upper Horizontal Toolbar: School Menu
Start Class : Allows you to browse through the available list of students’ computers in order to create a new class list Class Lists : Allows to select a particular class list in order to capture and monitor their computers Modify Known List : Allows you to make additions, subtractions, or edits to a class list Suspend Group Leaders : Can be used when students have been chosen as leaders within a group

Help Requests : Where you will be able to answer the questions of students that have been submitted Testing Console : The starting place for sending any tests that you have made with the Test Center (to be discussed later in this presentation) Configuration : Allows to adjust the setting of the Tutor console to fit your preferences Record: You are able to record the activities of students’ activities using SchoolVue (whatever you can see on your screen) Replay : Allows you to replay any recorded videos of students’ activities using SchoolVue you have made using the “Record” feature in the “Show” feature

42 Upper Horizontal Toolbar: Client Menu/Group Menu and Group Icon Toolbar
The Client Menu on the Upper Horizontal Toolbar is basically the “Horizontal Icon Toolbar” in a menu form. The first 3 options in the Group menu are the exact same as the Group Toolbar. The “Properties” option can only be lit if you have different tabs created. When working with Groups, the Tutor can assign a Group Leader to a selected member of the Group. The designated Leader can then take control of the Group, performing many of the tasks that the Tutor can.

43 Upper Horizontal Toolbar: View Menu/Planner Menu
The “View” pull-down menu gives you standard program options like “Toolbar” (to add or remove toolbars), what size icons should be, the various views that are available, and “Current Settings” “Current Settings” has a wide selection of user preference options for you to choose from. The “Planner” menu and relates to the “Lesson Plans” menu that is available in SchoolVue.

44 Test, Assess, and Report SchoolVue allows the Tutor to create and save tests. You have the ability to bank questions for future exams, add sound and pictures, include scoring and level for questions, and more This is located under the “Start” menu: All Programs>CrossTec SchoolVue> CrossTec SchoolVue Test Designer The initial username will be “admin” The initial password will be “admin” You will be able to select from a group of subjects and topics from which to select previously written questions from a test bank.

The Test Designer Icons located at the top of the window include: Users :helps you build new users and passwords Import and Export :SchoolVue users everywhere can share questions and resources Logoff :Logout the current user to access another user Publish :When you have completed a test, publish it and it will collect everything into a Zip file and store it Resources :This window has all of the pictures, audio, and video files that you will need in order to create your tests Layout :Allows you to change the window design Help :In case you need assistance using this function
