1 Tuesday’s Bell Ringer

2 Solving Inequalities

3 Rules for Solving Inequalities
The goal of an inequality is to get the variable by itself Use same rules as equations 1 exception If dividing or multiplying by a negative number you must switch the inequality AND: Graph Answer

4 Story Problems with Inequalities
Debbie has at most $60 to spend on clothes. She wants to buy a pair of jeans for $22 and spend the rest on t-shirts. Each t-shirt cost $8. What don’t you know? Represent it with a variable! What do you know? Is there more than 1 possible solution? What type of inequality sign is needed? 22 + 8x ≤ $60

5 Practice Brett has a $30 online gift voucher. He plans to buy as many books as he can. The cost of each book is $4.25 There is also a single shipping charge of $2.50 How many books can he afford without spending more than his gift voucher amount?

6 Practice Sue and Cath have $20 left for a cab fare home. The cab fare is $0.75 per mile plus a $2 fixed charge. What is the maximum number of miles they will be able to travel in the cab?

7 It is due at the end of the period !!!!!!!!!!
Practice The rest of the period you will be working individually on the worksheet handout It is due at the end of the period !!!!!!!!!!

8 Exit Ticket Aaron received a $25 gift card for his birthday. He used it to download a game for $3.99 and some songs for $0.99 each. The following inequality models the relationship among the quantities in this scenario where x represents the number of songs Aaron can afford to download: 25 ≥ 0.99 x A. Show all work to solve and graph the inequality

9 Wednesday’s Bell Ringer

10 Poster Rules and Rubric Your goal is to create the following
*1 multiplication Inequality * 1 multiplication equation * 1 division Inequality *1 division equation Create and solve a 2 stories, translate it to an equation/inequality and solve it. *1 equation *1 inequality 4 out of the 6 tasks need to have a negative term used in them

11 Poster Rules and Rubric
Your Poster will be graded on the following: Completeness of all 6 problems (focus grasshoppers) Justification of your steps Creativity of story problems Mathematical correctness Use of negative numbers (6 out of 11)
