Quick review of Media for HP Indigo presses
Plain Papers Papers that naturally work on HP Indigo presses that do not have added chemicals or surface treatments. Standard commercially available solutions. Many are listed on our media locator. Optimized Paper Papers specifically made for HP Indigo presses. These papers have added ingredients in the manufacturing process to optimize print quality when used on HP Indigo presses. Over 75% of HP Indigo Solutions are either untreated or Optimized in the manufacturing process Sapphire Treatment Today’s customers infrequently use this treatment for special papers. Current paper selection encompasses a wide variety of papers and alternatives that do not require surface treatment.

HP Indigo’s Evaluation of Media
Purpose of certification: to provide our customers with media recommendations for a large variety of applications. The media must prove to be reliable, of sufficient quality and perform well on press and with our consumables. Our media compatibility testing centers for commercial presses are: RIT (Rochester Institute of technology) for NA and LA suppliers Singapore (HP internal testing center) for APJ and EMEA suppliers The substrate certification procedure is built from 3 main categories: Runnability – check the ability of the machine to run the tested substrate. Optimization – check the fixing parameters (peeling, flaking) of the substrate at several points, additional data is received for the optimize working point (SPP). Blanket compatibility – check the 2nd transfer in terms of transferability, cleaning ability of the tested substrate, memories, small dots.

HP Indigo’s Media certification program
12 September 2018 HP Indigo Media Training HP Indigo’s Media certification program HP Indigo operates two official media certification centers RIT (North America and Latin America) HP Singapore (ROW) All certification centers use the same testing methods to ensure consistent results All media are tested for Runability Fixing Fixing Blanket Compatibility Runability Performance on each of these test segments is graded: Best Performing On the HP Indigo Media Solutions Locator (myindigo) you will find more detailed information. Each substrate is listed with it’s certification ratings per category, weights, supplier links, and more. Recommended Paper Good Paper To date 4,000+ off the shelf substrates available WW: In NA 1,196 commercial / 380 label & packaging In EMEA commercial / 380 label & packaging In APJ ... commercial / ... label& packaging (25%+ YOY growth) HP Confidential

HP Indigo Media Training
HP Indigo’s Media certification program Screen vs. Full Evaluation To certify a range of paper weights, two full evaluations will be conducted on the lowest and highest basis weight and a screen evaluation will be conducted on the middle weight. Additional screen evaluations will be added depending of the number of paper machines the range is produced on. On approval of these, the other weights in the range will be approved based on interpolation. Additional we test for all coated and uncoated papers if they can be recommended for photo applications. For this test we use higher level of ink coverage and light cyan/light magenta. The Specialty Test is a shorter test compared to the standard certification procedure, and is intended for substrates where low print volumes are expected. In addition to the runnability, fixing and blanket compatibility, selected Print Quality parameters such as Color Plane Registration (CPR) are also evaluated. Note: Substrates are not certified for any kind of application and/or finishing requirements. Therefore it’s recommended that users test their individual application/finishing requirements, etc.

Media Certification Grading System Grading is given for each of the 3 building block independently: Blanket Compatibility, Fixing & Runability Other\Special applications - either 'Approved' or 'not approved‘ for the application: White ink Photo One shot Best performing substrate Recommended substrate Good substrate While lesser used, the white ink, Photo and One Shot testing is performed on special media. These details are noted in the media locator for the related substrate.

HP Indigo’s Commercial Certification Procedure
HP Indigo Media Training HP Indigo’s Commercial Certification Procedure The media certification procedure incorporates several procedures. These tests are created by HP Indigo R&D and executed by the two certification centers. After passing a short initial screening evaluation, the substrate is passed on for a more comprehensive evaluation looking at the performance of the particular substrate within the press. Manufacturers are usually the organizations that submit their product for certifications. They are also responsible for maintaining manufacturing of the product to the same specs as the product that was certified to ensure consistent results.

Press specifications differ : Know the details…..
Commercial presses and Label and Packaging presses have different specs and certified substrates. Commercial presses also have media distinctions within their line-up Thick substrate up-grade kit. 18PT capabilities One Shot mode certification Photo rated substrates White ink kit. Dark substrates that need to hold a lot of ink. Coated papers vs uncoated papers. Many presses have different weight specs for the two types. Customers can add on features that broaden media specs. Starting with a 5600 and adding the one shot option enables the use of Tyvec!
