ADVERTISER FUNDED PROGRAMMES on IGNITION
2
CHANNEL PROCEDURE ADVERTISING OPPORTUNITIES
IGNITION regularly receives pitches and proposals from external parties who want to place programmes on the channel. IGNITION does not commission local programming. However, it will accept Advertiser Funded Programmes ie the production of the series/programme will be funded by a sponsor sourced by the external producer. Once a series / programme synopsis has been submitted and approved as content suitable for IGNITION, the channel requires a pilot of the programme to be submitted. If the channel is happy with the content, quality of production and translation of the proposal into an actual television programme, it will provide the external party with a Letter of Intent. This confirms that IGNITION is willing to provide airtime for flighting of the series/programme on DStv channel 189. This Letter of Intent can be used to raise sponsorship for funding of the series/programme.

SPONSORSHIP EXPOSURE Costs for the series are split into an airtime fee and a production fee. The production fee is covered by the sponsor, negotiated by the producer, and IGNITION does not have anything to do with this. However, there is a maximum amount that can be charged to the sponsor, based on the on air value the channel can show back to the sponsor. This is R1.5 million. In exceptional circumstances, IGNITION may be able to increase the value of exposure for the sponsor through various means. IGNITION appreciates being kept in the loop with regards to which parties are being approached as potential sponsors to avoid any working at cross purposes. Whereupon the external producer has a sponsor secured, the channel requires a meeting with all parties to confirm everyone understands the nature of the deal and what is expected from each party.

AIRTIME COST The airtime fee set by the channel is R per half hour slot per week including a minimum of 5 flightings. The producer needs to factor this into their total production budget as this needs to be paid to the channel before broadcast. This airtime fee includes a minimum of five broadcasts of the programme over one week. It also includes generic and episodic promos for the series and weekly promos which air a minimum of ten times per week. The series will receive its own page on the IGNITION website with details of the weekly episodes (R5000 per week value). IGNITION will also assist the external producer to market and promote the programme in other media where possible and suitable. IGNITION has final editorial approval on each programme submitted to the channel.
