EDUCAUSE Open Initiatives
Open Access Unrestricted online access to articles published in scholarly journals. Open Content License that explicitly allows copying and modifying of its information by anyone. Open Courseware Course materials in a virtual learning environment created by universities and shared freely with the world via the Internet. Open Data Practice requiring that certain data be freely available to everyone, without restrictions from copyright, patents or other mechanisms of control. Open Education Forms of education in which knowledge, ideas or important aspects of teaching methodology or infrastructure are shared freely.

EDUCAUSE Open Initiatives
Open Educational Resources Learning materials that are freely available for use, remixing and redistribution. Open Governance Enables any interested citizen to add to the creation of policy. Open Research (open science) Scientific research (methodology, resulting data and results) made freely available. Open Source Software Production and development promoting access to the product's source materials. Open Standards (open specifications, open formats) A publicly available method. Open Systems Collection of interacting software, hardware, and human components.
