Lines Slope measures the “steepness” of a line. Slope or
Ex 1: Find the slope of the line that passes through A(6,2) and B(-5,3).
2
Point-slope form: Given slope: m and a point (x1,y1) -
Ex 2: Find the equation of the line that passes through (-5,2) with a slope of -2/3. Ex 3: Find the equation of the line that passes through (5,-2) and (1,7).
3
Slope-intercept form: Given slope (m) and a y-intercept (b) :
Ex 4a: Find the equation of a line with a slope of -3 and a y - intercept of 6. Ex 4b: Find the slope intercept form of the line 4y - 6x + 5 = 0.

Vertical/Horizontal Lines
A vertical line through the point (a,b) is x = a. A horizontal line through the point (a,b) is y = b. General Equation Ax + By + C = 0 A and B not both zero. Ex 6: Graph 3x - 4y + 12 = 0.
5
Parallel/Perpendicular Lines
Two nonvertical lines are parallel if and only if m1 = m2. Ex 7: Find the equation of a line parallel to 4x + 6y + 5 = 0 through (-2,5). To lines are perpendicular if m1m2 = -1 or m1 = -1/m2.
6
Ex 9: Find the line perpendicular to
4x + 6y + 5 = 0 through (-2,5).
