Oxford Biomedical Research & Hemopet Study
3 groups of 20 Hemopet greyhound dogs each Normal dry dog food diet Low-fat light kibble diet Home made custom diet for food intolerant dogs Samples of whole blood, serum, and saliva collected at day 0, then at 2 weeks, 1 month and 2 months Measure catalase and/or superoxide dismutase in blood, as markers for transcription factor Nrf2 (nuclear factor 2 p45-related factor) activation rather than glutathione Measure interleukin – 6; tumor necrosis factor –alpha, and 15F2t-isoprostane (oxidation product of arachidonic acid) Measure TBARS : specific for malonaldehyde

Dietary Factors Known to Induce Nrf2
Turmeric, R-α-Lipoic acid, tert-butylhydroquinone, sulforaphane and resveratrol Cause increases in several enzymes (including catalase and superoxide dismutase)
