Who is living in the UK? Only 7.9% of the total population of the UK comes from a non – white ethnic group. 91% of the population of the UK were born in the UK. In April 2009, there were 50,255 government supported asylum seekers. That’s 0.08% of the population. At the end of 2008, the UN estimated that were 292,100 refugees living in the UK. That’s 0.5% of the population

A recent MORI poll showed that on average, the British public believes that 23% of the world’s refugees and asylum seekers are walkers our streets. 8 times the actual figure. In total we host 3% of the world’s refugees and asylum seekers. That ranks us 10th in the world behind Pakistan, Syria, Iran and Germany.

Why don’t asylum seekers and subsequent refugees have to take one of these in order to stay in the UK indefinitely?
