Before you begin planning and writing, you will read two texts . As you read the texts, think about what details from the texts you might use in your informational/explanatory essay . Students do not show their work. Students don’t cite evidence. Students don’t read carefully. Students don’t follow directions completely. Students give short, one or two word answers.

12 How can I help? Discuss the importance of doing their best in class and on the test. Talk to your child; discuss everyday things. Ask your child to justify or explain answers; ask, “How do you know?” or “What makes you feel that way?” Read with your younger children daily; discuss current events with older children.

13 How can I help? Ask your child to help you solve everyday, real world problems. Check on your child’s progress: use the Parent Portal. Conference with your child’s teachers. Ensure your child is prepared for testing each day (present, rested, iPad charged, good attitude).

14 What’s the 411 on GMAS? Students receive a grade equivalent which counts as 20% of the semester grade (final exam). You must make an 80% in order to be Level 3: Proficient on GMAS.

2-Developing 3-Proficient 4-Distinguished
