Missionaries: Monks: Mid 400s A.D. Sent by the Pope (the leader of the church) to convert people, especially in Britain. Early 500s A.D. They lived in monasteries, built in remote locations Job Description: Job Description: A missionary’s job requires a lot of travel. Those doing the work of the church are often given the title: Saint Patrick goes to Ireland (not officially sent by the church) They do not travel. Helped to educate about Christianity Lead a very strict and organized life with rules. Benedictine Rule was a set of rules set by Benedict and followed by monks in Italy. Different orders of monks across Europe. Services Provided: Healthcare to the poor Charity Ran schools/ copied books Collect/Save Greek/Roman writings Scribes/Advisors to local rulers
