4 Current IndianaView Participants:
Ball State University Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis Indiana University Indiana University-South Bend Indiana State University Martin University Purdue University Purdue University-Calumet University of Notre Dame Vincennes University Consortium of Universities for Spatial Information Science Geography Educators’ Network of Indiana Indiana Geographic Information Council Indiana Geological Survey Indiana Space Grant Consortium Begun: 2004 Purpose: Promote sharing and use of public domain remotely sensed image data (aerial and satellite platforms) for research, education and applications. Part of AmericaView Funded through USGS (U.S. Geological Survey) A bit of AmericaView history

5 Brief AmericaView History
1998: OhioView was pilot program; funded by NASA Ohio Congressman Regula helped push the program OhioView worked with the USGS to establish infrastructure to support routine acquisition, processing, and delivery of Landsat and other remotely sensed data to state user community 2000: Congress instructed USGS to begin implementing vision nationwide; AmericaView Program was born

6 AmericaView http://www.americaview.org/
Nationwide program focused on remote sensing image data and spatial technologies to support K-16 education, workforce development, technology transfer and applied research. AmericaView (AV) Consortium comprised of 40 university-led, state-based consortia working together to build a nationwide network of state and local users. Each state-view implements the programs that best fits the needs of the state. AV supports many uses of remotely sensed data through education, outreach, research & data sharing among AmericaView members. Promotes Earth Observation Day (April 8th this year) ( Changing to Earth Sciences Week (Oct 14 this fall)

7 INView - IndianaView Need identified by IndianaView Consortium:
education/outreach materials that use/highlight state geospatial data initiatives geospatial curriculum materials for (IN) K-12 educators & students Determined to address students in high school (Indiana) Geography & History of the World Advanced Placement Human Geography Create common nomenclature for educators & students (glossary) Presented the Project idea at 2012 GIS Conference Themes obtained from GIS professionals and educators; preparing students for decision-making from a spatial perspective with latest technologies Land use change Water Blog site: Tutorials, lesson plans, inter-actives, glossary, IN Landsat imagery/datasets collection Inter-actives have built-in assessment tools

8 Indiana Data Center @ IN State Library
Provides assistance with collecting, accessing, and interpreting GIS and other data Maintains list of Statistics by Topic: Holds free public webinars and on site data access training Maintains a collection of historical data at the library Helps with data sharing as liaison with local, state, and federal agencies
