Friday

Standards MGSE.7.EE.1 Apply properties of operations as strategies to add, subtract, factor, and expand linear expressions with rational coefficients

Warm Up! (10 min)

NS1a

Opening – Simplify Expressions
The basic steps to follow to simplify an algebraic expression: remove parentheses by multiplying factors. use exponent rules to remove parentheses in terms with exponents. combine like terms by adding coefficients. combine the constants. Remember “Apples and Oranges” and “Please excuse my dear Aunt Sally” 6b – 2b

Simplify the following expression written with fruit
Coefficient/variable = apple Number = Lemon 3x + 2 – 2x + 3 + - + You can only combine like terms: Remember the coefficient may be different but your variable must be the same. apple Lemon Simplified Solution: Combine (3X -2X) + ( 2+ 3) Solution X + 5

2X + 5 ( 2X + 3 ) y + 6x y + 2x

Work- Time – Simplify The Expressions – Show all steps

Closing – Parking Lot On an Sticky note– Simplify the following problem. 6(2x – 5) + 12x -2 Then write in ACES format an explanation of how you solved the problem. Place you sticky note on the chart paper. Be sure to put your name and period on the sticky note.
