5 What is the Early Years Foundation Stage?
The Early Years Foundation Stage (E.Y.F.S.) is the stage of education for children from birth to the end of the Reception year. It is based on the recognition that children learn best through play and active learning. The children will get dirty!!!

6 Within the theme of Learning and Development there are six areas
Within the theme of Learning and Development there are six areas. All areas are connected to one another and are equally important. Personal, Social and Emotional Development (Managing Feelings and Behaviour, Self-confidence and self awareness) Communication and Language (Speaking and Understanding) Physical Development (Moving and Handling, Health and Self care) Literacy (Reading and Writing) Mathematics (Numbers and Shape, Space and Measures) Understanding the World (The World and Technology) Expressive Arts and Design (Exploring and using media and materials and being imaginative)

7 A typical day in EYFS… Snack time whenever the child chooses
Phonics activities COOL time (choose our own learning) where children have access to indoor and outdoor play Physical activity – Leap into Life or playtime Storytelling Focused group activities including a Literacy task Singing / Story Lunchtime and outside play Maths activities COOL time Story time Home time On different days we also take part in PE, Music and lots of other activities! Snack time whenever the child chooses

8 Phonics Each day the children will take part in phonics activities where they learn the letter sounds in order to read and write. We use a multi sensory approach where children learn an action to match the sound (phoneme) whilst they learn to write the letter (grapheme). These sounds are then put together to form a word, where we encourage children to segment the sounds and blend them together e.g. c-a-t = cat.

9 Reading Your child will initially bring home a library book to share with you and over the first few weeks of school they will be given a book banded book to read to you. Please make a comment in their reading diary so we know that you have read with your child. It is useful if you add a small keyring onto the book bag so your child can find theirs easily

10 Tapestry We use an online learning journal called Tapestry.
Safe with a secure password and login details You receive an when an observation has been uploaded so you can follow your child’s progress. You can add own observations easily Referenced to the EYFS Development Matters Please complete the letter with details

11 Extra Information School lunches are free
Please ensure your child has their PE kit in school everyday as well as their book bag. It is always useful if you can provide your child with a spare pair of underwear and socks in case of accidents. Please ensure your child has a pair of wellington boots that are clearly named. Please leave any toys at home.
