Time connectives are words or phrases which are used to tell a reader when something is happening. Example: This morning, I ate porridge for breakfast. How can we make good use of time connectives in an adventure story? Suddenly All of a sudden Instantly

Who is speaking is speaking? How do you know this? When he or she is mentioned, who is being referred to?

At night I slept soundly in my room. But my sister Rose stays awake listening to the noises of the night. Sometimes I creep into her room to scare her. I do this because I know she is afraid of the dark. Is this the same extract? What has changed? The first extract in written in the third person. The second one is written in the first person. (Take a book from the library. Read a page. Ask the children is it written in the first or third person)

Big Write Checklist Sequence your piece of writing. Use time connectives. Use capital letter and full stops. Writing should be in the past tense. Use a variety of verbs.
