1 HW: What is the concentration of a solution Handout. Test on Friday
HW: What is the concentration of a solution Handout. Test on Friday!! Last grade of the Quarter. 10 or more index cards = 2 points! Do Now: /3/17 Hand in your Rate of Reaction Labs if you didn’t on Friday. In your Do Now section, answer the following: According to the Rate of Reaction Lab, what are some things that affected how quickly the Alka-Seltzer Dissolved in the water?

2 Do Now In the Rate of Reaction lab, we conducted two experiments. The first experiment changed the temperature of the water. In the second experiment, we crushed the alka-seltzer and increased surface area. Increasing temperature (adding heat) and surface area speed up the rate of the reaction! How else do you think we could’ve made this reaction speed up? Stirring

3 Lab Manual pg 52-55 Read page 52.
We will be discussing and highlighting together.

4 Classify whether the following are solutions or mixtures.

5 Some Definitions..... A solute is the substance(s) that are dissolved in the solution  ex. the salt in sea water A solvent is the substance in which the solute dissolves  ex. the water dissolves the salt WATER: Is the UNIVERSAL solvent.

6 Concentrations of Solutions
When you wake up in the morning, what is one of the first things you do? That's right! You urinate! What is the color of your urine? Dark yellow! Why is it dark yellow? Morning urine is dark yellow because it is a CONCENTRATED solution. A concentrated solution is a strong solution (a lot of solute, little solvent)  ex. Frozen Concentrated Orange Juice (FCOJ) A dilute solution is a weak solution (a lot of solvent, little solute)

7 Use a different color for each substance
