1 All Summer in a day By Ray Bradbury SETTING

2 Setting Setting is the time and place of the story.
Which time period does “All Summer in a Day” takes place in? Where do the characters in “All Summer in a Day” live?

3 setting Setting is created through details and descriptions
Example: “A thousand forests had been crushed under the rain and grown up a thousand times to be crushed again. And this was the way life was forever on the planet Venus,” (64). Can anyone explain what they visualized while I read this aloud? According to Bradbury, what does Venus look like?

4 SETTING Setting can also help to shape the action of the story.
Example: “They glanced out at the world that was raining now and raining and raining steadily. They could not meet each other’s glances.” (find page number!) How did the weather on Venus contribute to the conflict between Margot and the other children?

5 Let’s Take a look at some Examples…

6 Visualizing setting Instructions:
Pick out one sentence that describes the setting of the story. Use that sentence as inspiration for either a drawing, a poem, or an acrostic poem. Finally, write a short explanation on how your sentence contributes to the action of the story.
