There are 5 main steps of the job interview: Prepare First IMPRESSION FACE-TO-FACE INTERVIEW CLOSING FOLLOW UP Split up into 5 groups and make a visual aid to talk about your step

Types of Interviews There are 11 different types of interviews:
Screening/Prescreening Standard/Traditional Second Competency-Based/Behavioral Stress Lunch or dinner Structured Nondirective/work sample Technical Panel/Group Phone

Types of Interviews Standard/Traditional Competency based/Behavioral
Applicant is asked a variety of typical questions “Why do you want to work here, strengths/weaknesses, etc” Prove your answers with specific examples Competency based/Behavioral Based on the idea that your past employment behavior will dictate your future behavior Asked scenario questions based on last job Answer questions using specific detail and with a positive spin Is becoming the new interview standard

Types of Interviews Lunch or Dinner Nondirective/Work Sample
Takes place during a meal and may be part of a day-long interview process Choose menu and drink selection carefully Order in same/less price range of employer Follow standard dining manners (When of age) No alcohol Nondirective/Work Sample Used for candidates that need to show his or her skills Portfolios/Mock lessons/sales pitches

Types of Interviews Panel or Group
Groups of individuals collectively ask the candidate questions Usually takes place around a conference table Shake everyone’s hand before and after the interview Write down names if you do not know them Don’t focus on one member of the panel Use their names in the interview

Types of Interviews Phone Interview
Conducted over the phone usually before meeting the employer in person May be the only interview you receive Tips: Do not walk around or multi-task Confirm time zone 2 minute answers Find quiet place Use interested tone of voice Have all materials you would have for a face to face in front of you a thank you follow up If called at a spontaneous and bad time, be honest and reschedule No speaker phone

Types of Interviews Screening/Prescreening Second
Used to evaluate and narrow a large applicant pool Could be in person or on the phone Jobs: Sales, arts, drug reps Speed Interview: 5-15 minute rapid fire questions Testing: IQ, aptitude tests (know ahead of time if you need to do this) Second Occurs after the initial interview Questions will dig deeper than 1st interview Could be with others

Types of Interviews Stress Structured Technical
The goal is to see how you will handle stress in the workplace Interviewer may interrupt or grill you Be ok with silence in an interview if you felt you answered it fully Structured Each job candidate receives the exact same questions Technical Tech questions are asked to demonstrate you have the specific skills Specific language use Don’t pretend you know something you don’t
