Dakota College at Bottineau Nelson Science Center Back-up Boiler
2
Nelson Science Center Current Situation
Constructed in 1972 (approximately 45 years old) One of two primary academic buildings Chronically poor ventilation, especially in the Chemistry lab Only basic maintenance over its 45 year-life span, has significant deferred maintenance needs Tip: Add your own speaker notes here.

Phase 1 – Now Underway Currently completing Phase 1 of the project
($1,098,789 - $44,500 = $1,054,289) Complete renovation of existing mechanical room (heating system, air handling units, plumbing, electrical) Improved ventilation in chemical storage area and chemistry lab Restroom renovation
5
Phase 2 Request Phase 2 total request of $1,057,512
Remove existing HVAC ductwork, piping, temperature controls and lighting Install new HVAC ductwork and chilled beams to classrooms and offices Install new ceiling grids, lay-in tile, lighting fixtures and lighting controls Replace existing finned tube radiation pneumatic controls with direct digital control valves for integration with the chilled beams and re-heat coils Install new sprinkler system throughout the building for fire protection (which the building currently does not have) New lab stations in Chemistry lab (one with ADA accessibility) Tip: Add your own speaker notes here.
6
Intended Outcomes High level of air quality in science labs
Fire suppression system Uniform level of heating and air conditioning throughout the building Improved lighting in central corridors
7
Back-up Boiler Current Situation One primary boiler for campus heating
Installed in 2006 One back-up boiler Installed in 1966 Not sized to heat the entire campus if the primary boiler should break down If the primary boiler breaks down during severely cold weather, the campus would likely be shut down in order to keep the residence halls heated

Project Request Total Request - $376,700 Project overview:
Installation of unit equivalent to 250 HP, 1250 square foot heating surface Removal and disposal of existing asbestos materials Removal of wall to install new equipment New overhead door New steam header and piping, condensate piping and boiler feed piping Electrical connections and piping of new boiler to existing boiler
10
Intended Outcomes Ability to maintain heating across the entire campus in the event of a break down of the primary boiler Prevent damage to pipes and heating systems in buildings that would be closed in the event of a boiler break down
