3 ABOUT THE PROGRAM MCACD Culture Works
Special purpose unit of Montgomery County government Funds set aside annually for arts and cultural programming Provides $30,000 for Artist Opportunity Grants Umbrella arts agency for the Dayton Region Grantmaking, Campaign for the Arts, cultural planning Administers the Artist Opportunity Grant program

4 PROGRAM GOALS The Artist Opportunity Grant Program is intended to provide financial assistance to Montgomery County artists to further their careers through professional development opportunities and through opportunities associated with new works. Credit: Downtown Dayton Partnership

5 WHAT IS AN OPPORTUNITY? Invitation to exhibit at a prestigious gallery
Audition for a major dance company Opportunity to study with a mentor or renowned teacher Create/complete a new work that advances an artist’s career

6 WHAT IS AN OPPORTUNITY? Unique and imminent
Leads to professional growth Jan 1 – Dec 31, 2018 $500-3,000

7 ELIGIBILITY Resident of Montgomery County, OH with a valid street address (no PO Boxes), demonstrated by a driver’s license, utility bill, bank statement, voter registration document, etc. United States citizen or a permanent legal resident At least 18 years old Individual must be a professional artist or creative entrepreneur, defined as someone who: Has specialized training in the field Is recognized as a “professional” by peers Has at least a one-year history of public presentation or publication Please note that the word “professional” refers to the nature of the artist’s commitment, particularly as it is conveyed on the artist’s resume.

8 TIMELINE September 30, 2017 – Application deadline, 11:59p.m. November 2017 – Public Grant Panel Meeting, date and location TBD January 2018 – Funding distributed to grantees December 31, 2018 – Project must be complete January 31, 2019 – All final reports are due February 1, 2019 – Culture Works issues 1099’s acknowledging the grant as income

12 SCORING CRITERIA Artistic Merit Potential Impact Quality of Proposed Project Administrative Capability Public Benefit Credit: Rosewood Arts Centre

13 SCORING CRITERIA Artistic Merit: The professional capabilities of the applicant; the artistic strength, quality, vision, originality of the applicant’s work as demonstrated in the application, previous, work, and artist’s statement.

14 SCORING CRITERIA Potential Impact of the proposed project to advance/further the applicant’s work/career.

15 SCORING CRITERIA Quality of the Proposed Project: The artistic strength, quality, vision and originality of the proposed project.

16 SCORING CRITERIA Administrative Capability: The feasibility of the proposed project as determined by the applicant preparing and clearly articulating a logical, well- conceived project plan that can be reasonably executed, clear goals, and an accurate budget.

17 SCORING CRITERIA Public Benefit: The applicant seeks to increase access to and direct participation in high-quality arts and cultural resources that celebrate diversity and foster creativity within Montgomery County.
