1 SERVICE IN FELLOWSHIP John 4:35
CARIBBEAN YOUNG BELIEVERS’ CONFERENCE ~ GUYANA HOW DO YOU SEE THE FIELD? SERVICE IN FELLOWSHIP John 4:35 Lecture 4 – Bro. Watkins Chiverton

2 Are we sensitive to the fact that there is a field?
Greek a-gros: a field (as drive for cattle); genitive case, the country specifically, a farm i.e. hamlet – country farmland, piece of ground, land The Field the Lord tell us refers to the world. Mat. 13:38 The Lord has placed it before us and indeed placed us in it: 1)For His service 2) To be Tilled by us.

3 WHAT ABOUT Me? ~ What is my evaluation of the field?
Are we seeing it as a field for cultivation for heaven or for us where we can reap great dividends for ourselves. Is it a field of dreams – a place where all our aspirations and desires can be met? We see this in Lot. He saw the well-watered plains of the Jordan in Gen 13:10,11 For some it a field of wealth potential – a place where one can realize economic prosperity, wealth and enterprise- the rich man in Luke 12:15-21 Field of allurements or irresistible pleasures - This we see in the life for Demas; 2 Tim. 4:10. Field worth gaining at all Costs Alas even to the loss of their soul. Mark. 8:36– (like Israel “there is no hope for me” I have love strangers and after them I must go” Jer. 2:25.)

4 Must Use God’s 20:20 Perspective
In the day of our Lord Jesus Christ, when He was here, He emphasized the spiritual harvest, not so much the physical one. V34,35 “Say not ye, there are yet four months” –looking at time. Notice it is God who causes our eyes to be taken from OUR FIELD not ready to be worked to that FIELD that is ready for HARVEST They had a wrong evaluation of the field! The Fields were white They had a wrong impression of the Time! The fields were ready for the harvest

5 Man’s three immediate fields
OUR BACKYARD Our home, family and Community; the place where we socialize and spend most of our time OUR SCHOOL-YARD Our field of study where we are engaged in academic learning, our peers that go through the hallways, cafeteria or those we share dorms with Jer. 35:1-14 OUR WORK-YARD Our place of employment, our career field; the persons we interact with daily or cross our paths occasionally.

6 Christ’s Perspective of His Field
CHRIST opens our eyes to the true reality of these Fields Whether its our home- backyard, schoolyard and work-yard. In all three we don't see them as being in their true state. Lost and without God and Christ and needing to be saved! NOT SO WITH CHRIST! His family: – Your time is away ready John 7:6 His Acquaintances:– Except ye repent you shall all likewise perish! Luke 13:1-4 His Community: Mark 6:1-6; Luke 4: Preaching the acceptable year of the Lord…Physician heel thyself…Do your mighty works here in your own country His Nation: Luke 19:41 –44 Weeping because of the sad state of unbelief and insensitivity to the time of her visitation by the Godman

7 How do I Discern When the time/ conditions are right: to Reap?
Timing - our time and God's timing is so vastly different. In our time which here is procrastinated time man says there is time, the field is not yet ready but God's time He says the field is ready God’s Clock Says Man’s Clock Says The Time has come (Now) 2 Cor. 6:2 Time is Ready to Reap. Jer. 8:20; Jn. 7:6 The Time is not Yet Hag. 1:2 We have time John 4:35 The Kings Business Requires Haste 1 Sam 21:8 Time is short Ps. 89:47 There is Urgency 1 Cor. 9:16 Time Must be bought up Eph. 5:16

8 A DISCERNING EYE Sensible discernment as opposed to insensible .
Trained Farmer vs untrained farm hand A Trained eye will see sinners in this way as God sees them They are heading for Hell They and lost without God without Christ is this world. Judgement is fast approaching Look upon the field – they are white for harvest v Sense of readiness FH -Time is not yet? (Haggai) F - Time has come (now 2Cor6) FH- Missing the time (Jer. 8:20) F - Time is ready to reap (Rom 1:16 / F- Urgency in the Time (1Cor9:16)

9 REWARDS OUT OF THIS WORLD
What’s my motivation? FRANKLY what’s in it for me to undertake this arduous labour in the field - I’m no Adult? 1) they receiveth wages 2) gathered fruit unto eternal life 3) There is a reward for the sower and the reaper even to their own personal enjoyment. a. The sower rejoices that he can see the fruit of His labour – Paul b. The reaper rejoices for the fruitfulness of the harvest – the woman at the well. c. They both can rejoice for the yield received from God for it is He who giveth the increase The wages are of lasting value 1 Cor. 3:12,14. The wages are also shared among those who reap and those who sow. It's individually beneficial and mutually beneficial. God gives tremendous reward as described in Luke 19: 17, 19 Rulership with Christ in the Kingdom to Come Whether you do labour or not God is going to reap His harvest and will call whomsoever He will into His harvest Matt. 20:1-16 REWARDS OUT OF THIS WORLD

10 Is there a Model Servant who is a Master of the Field?- CHRIST
From John 4 a) He must needs go through Samaria b) He is sensitive to the field and the condition of the heart of this woman c) He senses here longing for satisfaction d) He presents the living water e) He appeals to her to put away her sin f) He senses the confusion in her heart as to the true worshipers g) He presents himself as her Messiah h) He reaps her and her acquaintances i) The sower and the reaper rejoices

11 FELLOWSHIP IN SERVICE ALL THE WORK OF GOD PURE GRACE AND GOODNESS
Verse 37 and 38 – Exemplifies True fellowship in Service One sowing One reaping One reaping where they have not labored One entering into the labour of others All working to bring fruit for God and for Heaven –v39-42 the illustration in the results of the Samaritans whether it was the woman or they themselves all were saved that day as it was Christ who planted that seed yet they got credit for themselves ALL THE WORK OF GOD PURE GRACE AND GOODNESS

12 What does it mean to me LET US LIFT UP OUR EYES AS INSTRUCTED BY CHRIST LET US RIGHTLY EVALUATE OUR THE FIELD. LET US ACKNOWLEDGE LIKE PAUL THAT WE ARE DEBTORS TO ALL SINNERS LET US PRAY THE LORD OF THE HARVEST FOR THE ABILITY TO WORK AND FOR THE WORKERS LET US GO AND WORK IN HIS FIELD LET US TAKE WARNING THAT TO REJECT THIS COMMAND “TO GO TRADE/WORK” WOULD BE TO REJECT HIM FROM REIGNING OVER US
