Biome Review Create an entry in your journal titled “Biome Review”
Define Biome. A large region characterized by a specific type of climate and certain types of plant and animal communities List the 8 types of Biomes Tiaga, Temperate Deciduous Forest, Desert, Grasslands, Freshwater, Marine, Tundra, Tropical Rain Forest List the temperature, precipitation and soil type for each Biome.
2
Temperature Deciduous Forest –
Tiaga – Temperature (T) - Mild to cold Precipitation (P) - receives rain or snow depending on season Soil (S) – acidic Temperature Deciduous Forest – (T) - moderate but vary in range (P) - varies (S) - rich in organic matter
3
Desert – Grasslands – (T) - high during the day and low at night
(P) - little rain (S) - poor in organic matter Grasslands – (T) - warm to hot in the summer and cold in the winter (P) - seasonal (S) - fertile
4
Freshwater Systems – Marine Systems – Water is less than 1% salt
(T) - vary with depth Amount of light also varies with depth Marine Systems – Biodiversity depends on the amount of light and location of the systems. Coral reefs are highly diverse.
5
Tundra – Tropical Rainforest – (T) - extremely cold (P) - low
(S) - nutrient poor Tropical Rainforest – (T) and (P) - high year round (S) - poor in nutrients
