ELISA By Codey & Marquell
2
ELISA What is ELISA ELISA stands for: Enzyme-linked Immunesorbant Assay. A way to sample large quantities of proteins and antibodies.
3
What does ELISA do? The point of the ELSIA is to find out if a certain type of protein is in the sample or how much of the protein is in it.
4
How can it be used to Identify Bt Corn?
ELISA can find a certain protein or antibody in a test sample.
5
Direct Vs. Indirect ELISA- Direct
Advantages Disadvantages Its quicker because only one antibody is found Fewer steps are used Cross-reactivity of secondary antibody is eliminated Immune-reactivity might be changed do to labeling with enzymes or tags. Labeling primary antibodies for each system is time-consuming and expensive No choice of primary antibody label from one experiment to another.

Continued… Indirect Advantages Disadvantages
A large amount of labeled secondary antibodies are for sale. Maximum immune-reactivity of the primary antibody is retained because it is not labeled. Different markers can be used with the same primary antibody. Cross-reactivity might occur with the secondary antibody. An extra incubation step is required in the procedure.
