6 Procurement Policies Growing trend for procurement policies to include forest certification Specifically, encourage companies to reference all credible systems

7 Key questions to ask when writing policies:
Procurement Policies How will this policy affect the entire organization? Key questions to ask when writing policies: Is an environmental policy important to your organization’s reputation or mission? Is an environmental policy important to your relationship with your customers? Is the policy consistent with company values? Can the policy realistically be implemented? How will environmental performance be measured and reported?

8 Setting a Realistic Policy
Preference for certified fiber from all credible certification standards (SFI, FSC, ATFS, CSA). Uncertified forest content should follow SFI’s fiber sourcing requirements, and/or PEFC’s non-controversial sources requirements and/or FSC’s controlled wood requirements. Recycled content as a stand-alone indicator can cause distortions and not necessarily the best for the environment (know the tradeoffs) Fiber from North America is lower risk than off-shore fiber in terms of risk of illegal logging, forest conversion etc.

9 SFI in the Marketplace Please contact Jason Metnick, SFI Sr. Director, Market Access and Product Labeling for current lists of Companies saying yes to SFI with procurement policies that are inclusive multiple credible forest certification standards, and/or Companies and products using an SFI on-product label
