History of tattooing Egyptians Considered tattoos to be therapeutic, especially for females as their bodies transitioned through pregnancy (ink found around abdomen, breasts, thighs) Tattooing has also been used to symbolize faith, celebrations, denote property, personal meanings, artistic expressions, rebellion, and even assimilationism
