What are three ways scientists study past climates?

4. Warm-Up Answer
Drill in lakebeds for ancient pollen to see what plants grew in that location in the past.
Look at tree rings. Thicker rings mean warm or wet climate. Thinner rings mean dry or cool climate.
Look at ice core samples. Analysis of ice and pollen/dust in ice tells allows scientists to infer what climates in the past were like.
