1 What is Root Canal Root canal treatment is the process of removing the inflamed or infected pulp tissue from within the tooth.

2 Why a Root Canal is Necessary?
Deep tooth decay (cavity) A cracked tooth Traumatic dental injury Elective (for added retention of a crown)

3 Signs and Symptoms Pain
Pressure - sensitivity when biting or pressing on the tooth Temperature – sensitivity to hot or cold, especially if it is prolonged or lingers Spontaneous or constant dental pain and swelling Ranging from a small bump or “pimple” on the gum to a swollen jaw or face If you are experiencing any of these symptoms schedule an appointment with Lithia Dentist, Dr. Laura Bridges

4 Root Canal Procedure.. If you experience any of these symptoms, your dentist will most likely recommend non-surgical treatment to eliminate the diseased pulp. First, the dentist numbs the tooth and makes an opening through the crown of the tooth to the pulp chamber.  Then the dentist will use special files to clean the infection and unhealthy pulp out of the canals and shapes the canals for the filling material. The dentist uses irrigation to remove the debris and clean the canals.

5 Continue… After that the dentist  fills the canals with a permanent material .This filling helps to keep the canals free of contamination or infection.  To seal the opening our dentist in Lithia will place a temporary filling material is placed on top of the gutta-percha.  This filling is placed until the tooth receives a permanent filling or a crown which looks like a natural tooth will be placed over the top of the tooth. Finally the dentist Lithia will place the crown is cemented into the place.
